So... is God testing us to see if we will ignore all the evidence around us, in favour of whatever stories we happened to be told as a child? That seems very strange. Why does he want to spend his time with these people, and not those that come to their own conclusions?

If that's all he wants, he could have just created a load of people around him that are programmed to believe anything he tells them without question, and bypass this whole ludicrous theatre.

He may be testing us, but if so, it's likely a test of our hubris - thinking we know much more than we do. The answer is probably much cooler than the things we come up with.

I am not a yec. My proposition is that at some point during human evolution from apes, our brains developed just enough for moral free will (ie, moral responsibility/culpability).

I accept Adam and Eve having been real people, as very early humans with moral responsibility for wrong doings. But obviously I don't believe in the literal story, where there was a paradise garden with a snake and a forbidden apple.
