Objects are not living things, humans have rights, objects to not.

The right is not pro life, it is pro birth, pro "fuck you after birth".

I am tired of the bullshit coming from the right that any call for a safer society is a call for a dictatorship. Australia and Scotland ARE NOT dictatorships and they ARE our allies and so is Japan. Despite what the right would have you believe, firearms ARE NOT banned in any of those countries. What they do get right, is not handing them out like candy. They make sure you are not mentally ill, they make sure you lock them up, they make sure you are not a violent person and if you get violent, they take them away from you. And they don't let everyone carry them in public without a damned good reason. <-------NOW, you show me anywhere in this paragraph where I called for an all out ban on all firearms. YOU WONT FIND THAT.

If you think you can stop this movement which simply wants a safer society, you are fooling yourself. We are not out to oppress anyone simply for saying we are tired of average of 90 firearms deaths per day 365 days a year.

That's fine... but you need more than a rally.   You need thought out and logical solutions.

What are you proposing, and what difference do you see coming from it?

If Australia and Scotland can put a stop to firearm violence what makes you think America cant?

We know what the solution is, stop the OBSTRUCTION of the NRA and the GOP.

You know what has not been well thought out as far as solutions? Sell more and do nothing.

We havent for a long time, and it may take a while still. But today over 800 cities not mostly in America but all over the world protested against gun violence today, and just in Washington DC alone there were 800,000 so total, there certainly way more. And once again, just in DC just like the Women's March, more than President Shithole's inauguration too.

I thin it is different this time. These same students are also planning another school walk out in April in memory of Columbine.

And it wasn't just about school shootings either. They had speakers from urban settings and domestic violence too.

But I agree, we had been giving up after the news cycle is over the next day, but no, I see things changing this time.

The NRA Quadrupled Its Digital Ad Budget After Parkland Killings, Flooding Facebook and YouTube

Quote:The NRA didn’t change its rhetoric or avenue of approach, the paper reported, but it did spend so much money that its ads began flooding the web, particularly Facebook and YouTube:

"Nearly all of the increase was on social media, primarily Facebook, where the NRA took its spending from an average of $4,400 a day in the three weeks prior to Parkland to $34,000 a day in the three weeks after the silence. Florida was heavily targeted in the post-tragedy ad burst. The state went from ninth most targeted in January to third between mid-February and mid-March.

... For the past year, the NRA had been ranked No. 706 by Pathmatics on its list of top YouTube video advertisers. In the period since Feb. 21, the gun-rights group jumped into the top 100 at No. 92."

Is 34k a day an insurmountable amount of money?  6.5 billion dollars was spent on the 2016 elections.  NRA was 50 million.  Can they really control the entire government with less than 1% of donations?

Do you think Facebook ad buys is too much to be countered by 24 hour coverage on MSNBC and CNN and Print and Huffpost and etc...?

You have millions of people marching, major networks favorably reporting, plenty of social media support, but it's all for naught over 34k a day?  Shouldn't it be harder to defeat the gun control crowd than buying youtube ads?

There's a disconnect, right?  I say this as a person who doesn't care what happens in the gun control debate.

I'm proud of these kids for trying.  Frankly some of them are so articulate.  Maybe it is because we now have the WLB for comparison?

That sounds like more than a rant than a solution. Are you looking to get rid of the 2nd amendment? Is your plan to just stop gun deaths? Does it matter if someone dies another way?

Quote:In North Carolina, the NRA spent $6.2 million on the incumbent Republican Sen. Richard Burr, the most it has ever invested in a down-ballot race. (AP Photo/Jae C. Hong)

The National Rifle Association took a historic gamble in 2016, and it paid off in a huge way.

The gun rights group placed multimillion-dollar bets on Donald Trump and six Republican Senate candidates locked in highly competitive races. It poured $50.2 million, or 96 percent of its total outside spending, into these races, and lost only one — an open seat in Nevada, vacated by the Democratic Minority Leader, Harry Reid. That race cost the NRA roughly $2.5 million.

The NRA’s big night came as a tidal wave of white voters without college degrees voted overwhelmingly for Trump, leading to one of the biggest election-night upsets in memory. The reasons why this demographic turned out in such high numbers for the GOP nominee will be parsed for years, and it is not at all clear how much of a factor his embrace of the NRA’s hardline position on gun rights played into the outcome.

But the NRA’s investment, which was more than any other outside group, paid for a slew of ads that directly targeted the same voters who propelled Trump to victory. The organization’s radio and television spots sought to cast Hillary Clinton and the Democratic rivals of its preferred Senate candidates as an existential threat to the Second Amendment, and national security. It is a message that resonates in the gun belt, a swath of primarily Southern and Midwestern states where Trump achieved some of his most consequential victories.
