Yes as young people many influences/influencers change us even when we feel wrong about making the changes, but then we can always go to what we know was correct in the first place. You know, it's funny. My greatest change was at The end of my puberty, which i hit rather late and which coincided with me losing my religion.
That transition was hard and unpleasant. But i came out a much happier and much more responsible person. In no small part because i began Looking for my cause of problems within myself, rather than outside myself. Which also made me focus much more on my actions and my own part in solutions. My sense of responsabiliteit and self worth grew without The crux of god. Funny, seems opposite to yours.

I solved that problem.  I never wore em.  Nothin but my bdu's...saved room in my ruck for profitable contraband.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Eight years working in Africa changed me. It humbled me. I met and worked some wonderful people there.

That would be amazing, I'd think. Life changing amazing. Apparently, it was.

Suddenly, life made sense.

That's beautiful. I want kids someday, and I imagine that naturally, you love unconditionally, that little being.  Heart

Getting shot through the head.

That tends to change people.

I've initiated some heavy conversations about post-end of life with my parents, and this has been humbling. I wish I could fast forward 25 years ahead for a week just to have a glimpse at that time in my life. I am in a markedly different mindset today, and it's not necessarily bad at all, but I almost feel some permanent change happening soon.
