Why don't some people understand lack of belief?

Why don't some people understand lack of belief?
I've heard some people say that you can either believe that there is a God or that there is no God. Can't they comprehend the idea of the lack of faith? Or are they unwilling to accept it?

They probably want to toy with the burden of proof. If you have a positive claim like "God doesn't exist" then the BOP is on you.

For some people, it is either black or white. For them, there is no grey area.

So many gods not to believe in, it can be hard to pick one
The meek shall inherit the Earth, the rest of us will fly to the stars.

Never underestimate the power of very stupid people in large groups

Arguing with an engineer is like wrestling with a pig in mud ..... after a while you realise that the pig likes it!

Then why do you Atheists all gather yourself with those who say no God exists, as opposed to gathering your side with those who say God exists, and against those who say God doesn't exist.

A lot of people don't like to lumped with people who have decided there is no reason they should believe in God, so they don't say they are Atheists, they say they are undecided or don't know what they believe.

It's hard even for everyone, including Theists, including Muslims, including Shiites, but you got to find the true name of God to know God, and the name of God is ever with you by your side!

Consider this hypothetical. All your life for as long as you can remember, your parents and family have told you that you had an older brother. This brother was born six years before you but died at the age of four from some unnamed incurable illness. Your parents spread his ashes in the ocean so there is no grave site nor headstone. You've never met him, you've never seen his grave, you've never seen a birth certificate nor a death certificate.

Now along comes some distant shirt tail relative who tells you that you never had any older brother. This relative tells you that your family made up the story as a way to get you to behave. 'You'd better be good or you could get sick like your brother did.' You'd better go to bed when we tell you or you could get sick like your brother did.'

Who are you gonna believe?

Lots of people have been fed the god story since birth. Telling them there's no god is a lot like telling the person in our little hypothetical that they never had a brother.

"Willfully stupid" is probably the best description of them.

They don't like being confronted with their disbelief of Odin, Zeus, Quetzalcoatl and all the other ones besides the ONE they believe in.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

You show me one thing true love doesn't know it's full measure of it's beauty relative to ugliness or it's ugliness relative to it's beauty, and I will become Atheist. Love sees all as is and is the true measurer of worth and lack of it, of wisdom and it's beauty or stupidity and it's ugliness, it's the true way to see things, and even knows the beauty of a mathematics, as mathematicians love of it speaks for itself to them, and it knows the beauty of the innermost thought, and it knows the beauty of eloquence, and the intentions behind every action, and it knows who you are, the ultimate love that source that channels those who are "love from him" (speaking of Yaha/John the Baptist in Quran).

I made a thread, and I said love either proves everything or proves nothing.  Those who want to love the truth and value things as they are, they know the proof of love and the name of God that is ever with them, and those who turn away from God's name and embrace the falsehood, they ignorantly conjecture and hold on to what has no meaning, and no value, and even if did, would perish after sometime.

And it's not a false dichotomy.  It's one or the other.
