Your gaming style?

RE: Your gaming style?
I used to be so amazing at deathmatch CoD2 that I could stand in the middle of the field of Carentan spinning around in circles shooting people on the horizon with an unscoped Kar98k. I would even jump upwards as I aim upwards just so I could point upwards and shoot up at the guys on the horizon a fraction of a second quicker.

I'd end up winning the deathmatch games (that's non-team deathmatch) with ratios like 65 kills and 87 deaths when the second placer would have like 25 kills and 1 death lol.

I sucked at not dying. I was just good at killing.

And if I'm not mistaken: at one point on the Xfire COD2 deathmatch rankings I was in the top 10 in the world. I was 17 at the time. So this was 12 years ago.

I never liked any other COD game since except I do remember playing either the original or third Modern Warfare game (can't remember which) and loving that skirmish mode that was similar to horde.

I also loved the zombie mode in Black Ops 1. But hated the campaign (I always hate the campaigns in non-oldskool FPSs). But even the zombie mode sucked ass in Black ops 2 for me. I also hated the alternative zombie map in Black Ops 1. Kino Der Toten is where it's at. Love that map.

COD1 was an awesome game to me at the time I played it. COD2 is just better though. But nowadays all CoD games bore me to death. There's the difference: Some games I temporarily think are awesome but later yawn at them (that's most games I get obsessed with actually)... but there are some games that, for me, stay awesome forever.

The original Unreal Tournament's Game of The Year edition kicks ass. As does Quake 3 Arena.

Still though, for me it's games like Doom, Heretic, Hexen and Duke Nukem 3D that rule the roost of FPS. I even enjoy the super old classic FPS that is Wolf3D and its awesome lesserknown counter part Blake Stone Aliens of Gold more than I enjoy the modern FPSs.

Now.... if I had to pick the most unique game I've ever played that is also one of my favorite games ever... it would be this:

It was famous for it having amazing graphics for the time of 1994. Especially when you consider the high res option. Most computers couldn't even run that at the time! It was high end stuff. Needed a lot of RAM too.

Paulpablo on AF has said that he remembers hearing about that aspect to the game but to me it's the gameplay that makes this game amazing and unique... even to this day. The closest I can get to this sort of gameplay is the game Sacrifice developed by Shiny Entertainment. But that was kind of a Magic Carpet and Populous the beginning sort of mix and it was very weird looking and it had as many differences as similarites. Nothing like Magic Carpet really but still as close as you can really get to ti!

Magic Carpet is so unique. One of my favorite unique things about this game is the fact that the levels are like little globes. In that it's from a first person perspective such as an FPS (except you're flying on a magic carpet of course)... but after you reach the edge of the map you can fly over to the other side... like it's a globe. They're literally mini worlds. It's so cool.

Anyway I totally recommend any fan of unique games with awesome gameplay however old to watch this video. I picked it up on GOG.com for cheap recently and it kicks butt as much as it ever did.

I don't really care for PvP and - in fact - multiplayer games in general. Anything with a voice-chat can f*ck right off. I play games to avoid interaction with people I like - why would I want to engage in p*ssing contests with semi-retarded teenagers? I tried an MMORPG once, ended up playing it for over a year, beat the top tier raids, but I quit it, because it started to feel too much like a second job. I like repetitive grind - that I have to pay for - as much as the next man, but those games are just too much.

I don't really care about story, unless it's cleverly presented through gameplay, like in Portal, for example. I like games with rich, immersive environments and interesting mechanics. Straight shooters, especially military-themed, don't really appeal to me - not since the 90's anyway. The only FPSs I enjoy these days are ones with large, elaborate, open worlds, like Far Cry. And the ones that are in fact RPGs with first person view and some shooting, like Fallout. Nothing I ever saw, or heard about games like Halo, or COD ever made me want to play any of them.

I like to make my own fun, when playing games. I treat games as toy universes, rather than as interactive story-telling media, or a competitive pursuit.

Yeah, can't really go past the farcry and fallout series....

But even though I'm completely bored with zombie fps games, I really enjoyed the dying light and dead island series...

For me, gaming pretty much ended with FFVII and Gran Turismo on Play Station.

I would absolutely LOVE to play a really good RPG.

The newest Fallout and Skyrim games almost did it for me, but they had one fatal flaw that I can never ever forgive in an RPG: scaling enemies. If I go back to a cave where I wiped out a bunch of walking mushrooms at level 2, and there are now hero enemies with goddamned crystal armor. . . no. That's not RPG, that's a serious violation of the illusion of an alternate reality.

I agree with the bold part. But I love multiplayer.

I just like playing 1 versus 1 games of Age of Empires 2 online competitively. And seeing how high I can get my Elo (the same system they use for Chess ratings)..... fuck voice chat or even text chat. It's just some random person I want to destroy.

MMORPG's are 90% causal though anyways.

For FPS I'll always be oldskool.

I play games for fun but if I enjoy a game enough I enjoy the beautiful strategy of the amazing game (Age of Empires 2 is a beautiful game)... the same someone would find beauty in chess. And it becomes fun to master the game (again, just like with chess). If competitive gaming gives you anxiety or frustration then don't play it.... but if you can enjoy kicking people's arses online then why not?

Love me some FPS (haven't stopped since the original doom 3D)
Also enjoy RPG's for something different (Ultima series (1 to 10)
Then there's the space games like the Mass Effect/Andromeda series) which are a comination of the above
But my favourite is the RTS (real time strategy) eg: DUNE2 (original), then C&C, etc ...

With all the games, It really all depends on whether the story/graphics style appeals to me.

I like the occasional shooter but I find RPGs to be more fun.

I'm absolutely terrible at strategy games. I invariably get my arse kicked.

I'm hooked on The Witcher 3.

Great game.

Though even on some of the easier settings it can be bloody difficult.

RTS. Ages of Empire II right now.

Skyrim, worth playing?

Yes.

But get the complete edition for PS4 or the updated PC edition.
