1st Call for Christian Only Debate: Our Role on AF

Exactly. Why are we here? What do we individually hope to achieve? Etc. It seems like our atheist friends are always perplexed by our participation of AF. I believe they would benefit as well by our being able to say how we really feel when not distracted by condescending chatter. Frankly, I'm not entirely sure why I'm here, so maybe batting around some ideas among brothers and sisters could give me a little more self-awareness.

Indeed.  So long as they conducted themselves along those much vaunted objectively moral standards, surely civility would ensue?  No moderator required.

There's u of us now... so can we start now? 😁

Let's get alpha on board first then we'll start. I send him a pm.

Okay, Alpha's on-board. That gives us:

Neo-Scholastic
RoadRunner79
Catholic Lady
GodCreated
Drich
A Theist
SteveII
alpha_male

I think that's enough to start and a fine selection if I might add.

As the organizer, I'll set-up the debate with Tibs as moderator since there seems to be no objection.

So just to refresh...

The topic for debate and discussion is our role(s) as Christians on Atheist Forums, i.e. "Why are we here?".

and rules...

1 - Only one post per day but post can be as long as you want. That will limit the amount of back and forth chattiness.
2 - No using the quote function. Respond to each other by restating/paraphrasing the points made by others. That preserves the debate format.
3 - "Wall Street Journal" rule - language must conform to the editorial standards of a respected journal.

IMO Neo can be both participant and moderator.

1 Cor 6
1 Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unrighteous, and not before the saints? 2 Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world will be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters?

Yeah, gotta agree with this. We're Christian adults. We can behave ourselves.

While I agree with you in principle (and thank you for the vote of confidence), I believe there are technical aspects of moderating and also IMHO we should respect the fact that pretty much everyone on AF, atheists included, are guests of the site's creator.

Tibs said, "The moderator doesn’t need staff powers specifically, they are just there to ensure people don’t stray from the topic or break a debate rule."

I'm fine with anyone though.

Isn't it basically just a matter of counting posts?

I don't think anyone of us is going to object to Tib's being mod. Let's do the damn thing.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Wait a minute.  What about me?  I'm down with .. well .. whatever it might turn out to be, provided that something is natural and not something wacky.

Man, whateverists never get any respect from other sects.

Beyond the joking I wouldn't mind taking part as someone who believes in a source of meaning beyond our petty egos which while nebulous is nonetheless worthy of reverence.

Organizing a christian mission is a novel use of the debate forums. GL with that. It will be interesting, at least, to see what comes out of the First Council of AF.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!
