I get that. But you should realize that by doing what you did i.e. going out of your way to go back to the store, in way, the guy in the store kinda won.
Let's assume the guy was just doing his job. You go back just to let him know how annoyed you are because he was doing what boss pays him to do=he just goes home thinking you're a jerk=he wins.
Now let's assume the guy was trying to be a jerk to you. You go back just to let him know how annoyed you are that he was being a jerk to you=he now has confirmation that he's achieved his goal=he wins.
If you can't let it go, definitely let it out. But try to make sure you don't let them win in the process.

Until I was 12, I was the most happy-go-lucky guy ever, but at 42, I feel like I'm still in the adolescent period that started for me at 13. I am very moody and have been since then, and the older I get, the more respect I feel like I should have.
I will say that I will let more things slide. I'm not as confrontational as I used to be. It's just not worth it. People don't listen, even sometimes when I'm being nice about an issue.

If he wants to erroneously think he won, that I don't care about. I felt this building need to return to say what I did, and I have reached a point in my aging process where I no longer want to just keep it in check.

When I was younger my father, a GP, diagnosed me with "acute irritable Beccs syndrome".
I guess it has become more severe through the years...

I don't either, but I also don't want to be wrong about my feelings, which I have been before. I confronted a SWA ticket agent about using "sweetie" on me. And I was irritated about some other things in my day, so basically I unwittingly took it out on her. She apologized, and then calmly asked me to think about it another way. She was from, I dunno, the South maybe, and that's how people address eachother there.

That's so cute. What an adorable father.

Fair enough. But he did win. I've had this conversation at work more times than I care to count. Someone will call the office and report that one of my truck drivers was honking his horn at them and gave them the finger etc. I'll ask what happened before that and the answer will always be that nothing happened. Then I'll call my driver and get his side of the story. He'll tell me how the car was trying to pass him and couldn't because of traffic. Then when it finally was able to pass him, it cut right in front of him and slowed down to a crawl, then the driver of the car rolled down his window gave the finger yada yada yada.
My response is always the same. That guy in that car wanted to play a game of lets piss of the truck driver. He threw the ball and you hit it right back to him. He wins. He wanted to push your buttons and he did. And he knows that he did because you were kind enough to tell him so. How's that feel? Does it burn? It looks like it burns. The only way to win that game is to not hit the ball back or even acknowledge that the ball exists.
Sometimes my guys hear it and they're happier. Sometimes it just falls on deaf ears and they continue to allow other people to ruin their day. Sucks being them.

If that's what you wish to believe. Fair enough.
Interactive experiences are subjective. I think I won, he think he won. As I already stated, he can think what he wants. I did what I needed to do.

I now concentrate my irritability on a few specific targets.
More of a sniper than a shotgun approach.
