Open discussion of the Christian Why We're Here thread

RE: Open discussion of the Christian Why We're Here thread
Oh and SteveII hasn't posted yet either. I withhold judgement from Stevey and the arch nemesis of Wile E. Coyote until further notice.

Now I just feel like even the Christians on the thread who I like the least... I still feel like they're honest. And I guess it's going to make it a lot easier for me to be tolerant of people I consider nuts in future. Perhaps it has been an empathy failure on my part?

Honesty is the number one quality for me, so as absolutely reprehensible as I find some of theirs views, especially Drich... everyone does seem genuine.

But then... Neo hasn't turned up yet lol. And he always comes across as snide, condescending, pretentious and disingenuous to me... so we shall see.

Bold added. And now we have seen. And he still seems snide, condescending, pretentious and disingenuous lol.

That's the other thread.

There's a thread running pretty much that way for the theists, (Tibs launched it, BTW) and then there is a running comments thread here.

I'm resisting the urge to merge them . . . .

Neo wrote:

Quote:Psalm 1 advises us to not associate around with people who, by adopting the title of atheist, have already signaled their intentional rejection of belief. (I do not believe their self-delusion that an atheist simply lacks belief.)

and:

Quote:The majority of AF atheists are New Atheist groupies who spit out one-liners the way candy pops out of Pez heads.

And some people wonder why some atheists go on the defensive. It's because crap like that is said that generalizes atheists. We shouldn't have to stay silent or keep our opinions to ourselves. Theists want to come in here and say they don't feel like they are treated fairly or they can't debate properly with atheists because of insults and shit slinging coming from atheists, but when they show us that they are not capable of playing by their own rules, they make it difficult to play nice in return.

Please don't ask us to give what you aren't will to give in the first place. Knowing that we can't respond directly on that thread because atheists don't have permission, is really bullshit. The two quotes above don't even address the actual question being asked of Christians. It's just another way for Neo to get a jab in while feeling superior and untouchable in the process.

Sorry but those comments should be dealt with by a moderator because they don't stick to the actual debate topic and are in no way civilized comments.

They aren't treated fairly.  Nor should they be.  Idiots do not deserve fairness.  They deserve scorn.

They are still people though. One's religious affiliation should not 100% determine whether or not they are a jerk. Deb isn't an idiot but she's a theist just the same and you literally just did what I complained about them doing. Generalizing. How can we ever expect to treat each other with kindness if we engage in this back and forth mess?

I agree. I also agree that while he complained about A Theist using the quote system in the debate thread, he was disingenuous about answering the question put to those allowed to post there. So he can't even follow the rules he expects others to follow.
