I'd rather not have to create a subforum, and then at some point in the future delete it again because it's not used. That's the issue.

Every subforum we have, barring ones with restrictions (i.e. debate forum, area 69, etc.) are popular enough to merit their existence. A lot of them were created because the demand for them was high, and people had already produced a lot of threads that could be moved there.

So, if you really want this subforum, create your blog thread in Off Topic, save a bookmark link to it so you don't lose track, or subscribe to it, keep it updated, and encourage people to do the same. When you can show that these kind of threads are popular and numerous enough to merit a separate subforum, let me know.

How about Shell B's suggestion? To have a broader section for lifestyle/family/personal matters...something along those lines, and then blogs could be in there?

I like that idea better actually, than a formal journal/blog section, where only that can be put there. I can see that maybe not taking off, but a section that has a more personal feel to it, and blogs/journals being a part of it, would be really nice.

Just wanted to throw that out there since Shell B mentioned it to see your thoughts.

Like I said it's probably 15-20% of what goes on there, blogs and stories, they just aren't called that. So there is tons of blogging going on on this site. Poke around off topic and consider how much of it is more or less blogging.

A separate thread per topic, and one thread per user blog is entirely different.

Honestly I'd be more in favor of a subsection which is specifically about people's life stories, personal updates, etc, than a one thread per user blog kind of situation. As you pointed out, we have a load of threads in Off Topic that follow the former style right now.

They already are. People just aren't calling them blogs. I think it's obvious it would be popular enough. People on the internet love to talk about themselves. Anyway, i guess I've made my case as much as I can on the topic.

That's it! That's what I'm suggesting. There are sections on other forums that have separate journals/blogs, but they are under the ''umbrella'' of a lifestyle/general/personal story type subsection. That's not necessary. I honestly think that if you created a subsection called ''Lifestyle/Personal Matters''...that would be the better section to have people post personal journals sharing highlights and lowlights of their lives. And it would be filled with people, you'll see. Big Grin

Build it and they will come?

Yeah, I'd enjoy that as well. A stories section, it's not that different from what I'm envisioning anyway. It just seems a one thread per person would keep it tidier. But I don't think you'd have to specify one way or another. Like the "ask a...." section. People will just gravitate to what is natural. I am guessing that will end up being one thread per person but separate threads per story would be cool too.

Great!

Maybe something like ''Life Matters: A Place to discuss lifestyle, family and personal issues''

Might be wordy, but something like that? What do you think?

(And then, if someone wants to create their own thread for their own personal journal/diary/blog, that's where it would be posted. (as opposed to a delegated formal journal section)
