The Myth of Sisyphus - Albert Camus
Heavy duty! I still want to re-read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance this summer. Had to buy a new copy because my old one migrated to some friend, but I'm getting ready to do some work on my Yamaha and the hot, still monsoon weather had me thinking of some of Pirsig's observations.

I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Hmm, where did you get that copy? I can only imagine reading it and muttering to myself, "Funny, I don't remember Tarzan of the Apes having so many drug references, latent homosexuality, and mugwumps in it."
I thought it was Edgar Rice Burroughs. I have read some of his works. Along with the works of Robert E. Howard, they framed part of my perspective on how masculinity was expressed.
LOL, on a very tangential note, have you read any of Augusten Burroughs' biographical work? Great stuff!

I used to live in a room full of mirrors; all I could see was me. I take my spirit and I crash my mirrors, now the whole world is here for me to see.
Jimi Hendrix I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not. Kurt Cobain (July 10, 2011 at 10:09 am)Epimethean Wrote: Bozo, you might enjoy Mieville, even politically. Can you please suggest which to start with?
A man is born to a virgin mother, lives, dies, comes alive again and then disappears into the clouds to become his Dad. How likely is that?
A History of Western Philosophy - Bertrand Russell
"Great spirits have often encountered violent opposition from weak minds." Einstein When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down happy. They told me I didn't understand the assignment. I told them they didn't understand life. - John Lennon (July 10, 2011 at 5:29 pm)bozo Wrote:(July 10, 2011 at 10:09 am)Epimethean Wrote: Bozo, you might enjoy Mieville, even politically. I'd suggest starting with Perdido Street Station. Many of the books are connected in a way, but each is in a different genre (sort of). He is pretty unique, and his vocabulary has to be the best I've read.
