I'd say that they observed our behavior and found the optimal way to subjugate most of the human race.
Arthur C. Clarke said, "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." These alleged more-advanced aliens could take the piss on all of the religious with some technology that hasn't been invented here. I can see child-like wonder and people falling to their knees everywhere in this scenario. I'd stand there and try to figure out how they do it.

I would definitely be more open towards exploring Christianity (again). It depends on how similar the religions were. While coincidences are possible, I think enough of them, especially if they were core to Christianity (and not other religions) would certainly make me question.

I don't know how you could be presented with new evidence and not at least reevaluate. If any religion lines up with an alien races religion, I'd give it serious consideration the biggest flaw with religion, is there is no reason to believe it is true, as there is a reasonable non magical explanation available. But this would definitely at worst be a staggering coincidence. The details would be very important.

Yeah I think it is unreasonable to the point of being irrational for anyone to claim it wouldn't phase them at all.
