It's important to remember that the creatures who knew god the best, supposedly saw him in all his glory, power and love (from a biblical perspective) namely Satan and his many followers didn't think he was worth following. Belief in god is certainly no guarantee of worship, which is why it's stupid to use the the 'it would interfere with free will argument' if god revealed himself, Thus making himself the same as no god at all.
Apparently they (the sons of god/fallen angels) also found the ladies on earth too attractive and came to mate with them.. !
