Actually, I don’t think our civilian space program will be built back up. Instead public funding for civilian space program will be seen as an even more direct and unwanted competition for funding by a stand alone space force.

So ... stick a load of people inside a rocket that is basically a big missile to deliver them to something to blow up and then bring them down again, rather than just use the rocket as a missile.
If space becomes an active area of conflict then it will end up with no one having a presence there because of the Kessler syndrome. It was also hurt America more because their tech companies rely more on satellites and the connectivity they give.
Trump really is such a fucking idiot.
Russia has parity with the US in military space capability, and in some areas they have a superiority. China has near parity with the US in military space capability. Both are far behind the US in conventional air and naval power.
By stoking a space armed race, we converted the theater of military competition from one where we are far ahead, to one where we are at the same level as our competitors. What is worse, our national debt is set to balloon due to trumpian tax cuts. Our military spending in space will therefore be financed either directly or indirectly with debt. China is our largest creditor, as well as our competitor in space who starts out with neat equal footing with us. We will likely soon lose that source of credit because China buying Americans debts is contingent on on-going trade between the two countries which trump will likely shut down with a trade war. All the while China, with a economy similar in size to those of America, but a military spending 1/4 as large, has vastly more room to ramp up their military spending then we do. In addition, as you point out, Trump also lacks the ability to do basic arithmetic. The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.
