In actual history the Egyptian empire included all of the Levant area to the Tigris River.  The lost that area and their territory stopped  at the Red Sea.  So in metaphorical terms the Red Sea was parted since it became the Eastern limit of the Egyptian empire.

And that is how you do irrelevant, folks!

Probably was not written at all until the 3d century BC.  May have existed as oral tales for a very small community of former Persian subjects centered around a shithole called Jerusalem as later transliterated into Latin.  The earliest written evidence we have is that Greek-speaking writers translated it into the Septuagint sometime in the early 3d century BC.
The convoluted nature of the story with the contradictions and duplications is best explained by writers trying to translate and write down an oral tale which had been in circulation for some time.  In spite of jesus freak claims oral tales are not reliable.
