Quote: He does seem confused about who his father was. Well, sure. Some moron comes along 200 years later and tells him that he's his own father and that therefore he fucked his own mother who wouldn't be confused?
What?!!
And yet I always thought that all those riches that churches have (like Vatican) came from God by angels carrying golden bricks to good Christians.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
Not only that, but in my experience, the Church is highly divided by socioeconomic class. If you didn't work and/or weren't making Christian mini-me's you didn't exist after Church was over.
Genesis 1:28 - 'And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.'
What is that if not the very heart and soul of capitalism? Boru

Most Christians, of course, don't follow this in the least. They state "Be Charitable if you WANT TO!" As if somehow it's being christ-like to just hate the gays, and not actually help people. (Because you know, the latter is just too hard) UGGGGG This is why I hate focusing on ANY religion. Capitalism IN REALITY, has nothing to do with having a religion or not having a religion. It literally means "to capitalize" meaning obtain resources. It can only be said that the powers can and do use ideology to trick the populations into supporting their power, but their power ALWAYS takes resources to keep. Russia is a majority Russian Orthodox Christian. Saudi Arabia's Royal Family owns banks and oil companies. Iran's Imams also have global investments. Religion is nothing more than superstitious politics with the same structures as politics. They all involve power structures, reward for loyalty and promote tribalism. China is a majority Buddhist nation. But the reason it it is currently authoritarian stems from the brutal Orwellian Terracotta Warrior era, where loyalty was to, at the time the local ruler. China never learned the balance between an authoritarian family, and an authoritarian party. Gadaffi was a Muslim, AND a billionaire. Castro at his death had an estimated wealth of $800 million. The only "connection" to Christianity that wealth has is abuse of power. It would be better to argue the alleged head figure "God" and his abuse of power and monopoly on life. But wealth itself is not the issue. RE: The connection between Christianity and Capitalism

It's called Dominionism. As a belief it is based on that very verse. However, while there are some christian sects which endorse it directly, all versions of christianity have that influence. This is why the GOP is OK with doing away with the EPA for example. Fundamentally, god gave permission to do whatever you like with the Earth. It doesn't matter how much because jebus will be right along in the second coming to fix it right up. The question that I would ask were I jebus would be "I gave you guardianship over the earth and everything in it. How did you fuck it up so much?" And proceed to ladle out steaming bowls of creamy justice. Of course, no such thing will happen and the fools will be left wondering why jebus is a no show. After him being totally wrong about that (omniscience on the blink), the advice loses merit somewhat. Pretty much what I'm thinking. His advice takes on a different meaning when you remember he thought the world was going to end within a few decades.

I think the Bible gives a pretty clear cut endorsement of capitalism. I don't see what the problem is.
