I think it's simply just lying for Jesus. Claim you're an agnostic, start with pseudoscience that confirms Christian bias. Hope that at least some of the atheists and/or agnostics are still doubting themselves, and will go along for the ride. If you can snag another soul for the herd, great. If not, well, that's what sock accounts and frequenting other forums are for.

The desperate need for attention, even if that attention is negative.

Basically going through the motions while waiting to die.

I don't know. People do a lot of pointless things to entertain themselves. Why is this any different?

I heard a rumour after my motorcycle accident years ago after which my heart stopped for a couple of minutes.

I remember nothing, but according to the rumour, Death is still in therapy after his Near Beccs Experience (NBE).
