He is obsessed with quote on quote "Cultural Marxists " while not understanding Marxism is the slightest
He is obsessed with quote on quote" Post Modernism" while not understanding Post Modernism
And worst still he thinks the former is the later despite Marx being a hard modernist

10-Be precise in your speech .. He seems to do a better job of it than you. Not that you suck at this but you do seem under motivated.

Totally sucks what they did to ChimpLady's roof though. (I was a skateboarder and I did skate some places where we weren't welcome, but no where that did any harm.) [*]

Is that based on his videos then? I started looking at one of them but lost interest. I'm certainly not infatuated with learning what he personally thinks about everything under the sun.

Peterson might just be engaging in a massive "throw crap at the wall and see what sticks" social experiment. His views are all over the board.

Jordan B. Peterson practices and teaches psychotherapy and has been called the greatest Canadian intellectual since Marshal McLuhan. (I don't have an opinion about that claim.)
So I finally got my turn to look this book over which came out this year (2018) after waiting through 8 people ahead of me with a hold on it at my local library. This is not the sort of book I'm usually attracted to read. And I don't intend to read it straight through or very thoroughly. I actually thought I'd be ripping into it for being cheesy. But I don't hate it.
Apparently it started as a response to a question online at Quora and originally included many more than 12 'rules'. They really amount to something more like "12 points of advice for leading a satisfying life" and there is a chapter devoted to each one in the book. Mostly I agree with him.
Some require more elaboration to see what he has in mind, but here are the twelve 'rules' if you're interested:
wiki Wrote:
- Stand up straight with your shoulders back
- Treat yourself like someone you are responsible for helping
- Make friends with people who want the best for you
- Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today
- Do not let your children do anything that makes you dislike them
- Set your house in perfect order before you criticize the world
- Pursue what is meaningful (not what is expedient)
- Tell the truth – or, at least, don't lie
- Assume that the person you are listening to might know something you don't
- Be precise in your speech
- Do not bother children when they are skateboarding
- Pet a cat when you encounter one on the street
I'm not real gungho about this but if anyone else has looked it over or read about them and wish to discuss it, I can currently. I've been reading a good bit in his chapter 8 on truth telling which I have to agree with.

I know he mentions it in the debate with Matt . But really his central point is without god morality has no grounding therefore there is nothing stopping an atheist from being a monster and he of course trots out the tired argument about Stalin and Hitler .I'm pretty sure you know the drill it's been pretty standard apologist rhetoric .
Quote:Set your house in perfect order before you criticize the world
This by the way is his favorite one and he uses it to bludgeon any kind of activist or civil rights group .When you ask him when they have achieved perfect order he will insist you have not . It's a weapon to shut people he doesn't like up .

Peterson is a bit of a provocateur, likely not as bad as his opponents make him out to be. I've never held it someone to hold a controversial opinion, especially if their intent is to engage in dialogue--which is exactly what his intent seems to be. I wouldn't call him all that great of an intellectual (Canada must be hurtin' if he's the second-best) but stood next to the vast majority of the internet, he's positively erudite.
Sure, he's got a beef with Marxism that I don't think holds water. Sure, he's an alarmist, advancing a false view that college professors are teaching kids dangerous ideas. But at the end of the day, he's ten times healthier (and does far less damage) than a backwoods Baptist church that squeezes every bit of intellectual curiosity out of the children who attend.
I actually like the 12 rules... especially the second one.

On that last point i would disagree i say he's more dangerous it's easy to dismiss the backwoods Baptists they are neither slick or charismatic and are easy to dismiss .Peterson is both and stands for many of the same moralist notions if one reads his opinions on hoe society should look . I don't think he's simply provoking for the sake of conversation. I think he very much wants to move beyond that and that troubles me .

He's a clown, in my opinion. My family seem to have no idea about me, since they bought me this book as a present! It superficially has fairly good advice, if you just took the chapter names and don't actually read the content. If you do read it, it's a mixture of garbage, some veiled religious preaching, Peterson projecting his own issues (especially about women), and some pretty dangerous ideas.
Hugo and Jake have begun reviewing the book. As usual it's a very entertaining watch.

Haha, yup! It's a scary place
They did a pre-intro intro too where they talk about all his crazy bullshit regarding the "new" (5 year old) laws regarding transgenders.
PS: here we go.
Ironically my brother is a rabid follower of his, ugh... Not the same brother who's working on a game, which I'll be hopefully posting about soon
