Since I've been off the forums and off facebook for the past week, I just found out about this yesterday. Our priest addressed it this morning at mass as well.

The shallow state, on the other hand, is unsettling because not only are the signs of it ever more visible but because its influence is clearly growing. It is made scarier still because it not only actively eschews experience, knowledge, relationships, insight, craft, special skills, tradition, and shared values but because it celebrates its ignorance of and disdain for those things. Donald Trump, champion and avatar of the shallow state, has won power because his supporters are threatened by what they don’t understand, and what they don’t understand is almost everything. Indeed, from evolution to data about our economy to the science of vaccines to the threats we face in the world, they reject vast subjects rooted in fact in order to have reality conform to their worldviews. They don’t dig for truth; they skim the media for anything that makes them feel better about themselves. To many of them, knowledge is not a useful tool but a cunning barrier elites have created to keep power from the average man and woman. The same is true for experience, skills, and know-how. These things require time and work and study and often challenge our systems of belief. Truth is hard; shallowness is easy.

Forget the conspiracy theories. Something much more dangerous is seeking to gut our government and change the character of our society.

Um, so they're having services to forgive themselves ???

Isn't that something that should come from the VICTIMS ??

Since I've been off the forums and off facebook for the past week, I just found out about this yesterday. Our priest addressed it this morning at mass as well.

I just wanted to say that I am horrified. The priests involved in any abuse and the bishops who enabled them are evil monsters. The ones who are still alive should all be stripped of their priestly powers and denied any form of retirement pay. If their names are associated with any buildings, scholarships, etc., they should be immediately changed. If some of them are still able to be tried, let them stand trial–and provide for their own defense from their own funds, and if found guilty, locked away for life. I don't believe in the death penalty, but if I did, I would say it should be reserved solely for people who abuse innocent children.

More people are weighing in. In my "local" paper, their professional curmudgeon weighed in with his happy experiences as a child educated from K-12 in a Catholic school, serving as an (unmolested) altar boy who spent a fair deal of time alone with priests. Many years after this, one of his friends and that friend's brother filed suit against a priest. That alerted said curmudgeon of the problem. He wrote a column calling for the Catholic laity, and the "management", all the way up to the pope to do the right thing.

This has been going on for centuries! We're in a different environment from when the Pope could order the Inquisition, but how different is it, when priests can commit sex crimes, and the police won't even touch the case? The RCC is a criminal organization, make no mistake. They've found enough hench- men and -women in the trenches to help them perpetrate their crimes. Vorly has it right- just make buttsecks a sacrament, and parents will line up their spawn to help. It's a good thing that none of my sons were molested. Truth is, we were involved enough in their young lives that that would never have happened. I'd be in jail if it had, unless I could plead justifiable homicide.
