Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission, Round 2

A man goes into the store on his own and requests a wedding cake. The baker also has a delivery service and agrees to bring it to the venue. When the baker arrives with the cake, he realizes that it is a same-sex wedding. Is the baker within his rights to refuse to deliver the cake and refund the couple’s money?

It'd be super shitty, but legally I think he should have the right to do that, yeah.

And just so everyone knows I'm being completely objective here, I'd say the same thing if the scenario was a Catholic baptism or something.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Already knew that.  You're objectively in favor of religious discrimination.  So what? Is that supposed to make it better?

It's easy to say "I'd be okay with someone denying a Christian a wedding cake!" because it's unlikely to ever happen.

It's a safe bet. "Yeah, sure. I'd be okay with Christians being discriminated against. It'd be their right!"

K. This is me. Half in the bag. Probably woefully uninformed on the legalities of scenarios like this:

If you open a private business to serve the public, you shouldn’t get to pick and choose which groups of people you’re willing to serve based on personal reasons. What if someone is a “reformed” sex offender marrying a woman? Do you make the cake or not? I don’t understand why this is even a debate. I’m
Drinking wine. Sorry if this was dumb. *bows*

Also, get over yourself and make the fucking cake. No one is asking him to suck another guy’s cock, ffs.

Interesting. Can you justify your position? The cake is already baked. It’s already symbolic, the baker was just unaware of its symbolism. Are you saying that freedom of expression is retroactive?

I’m failing to see the difference between this scenario and one where the baker is blissfully unaware the entire time (say, if the customer picks up the cake alone).

Thing is, you do get to choose who you serve.  Businesses and their owners have -immense- leeway to deny service.  You actually have to go out of your way to run afoul of civil rights laws.

To a committed bigot, though..none of that matters. All of the other stuff is inconsequential, they want to be able to do the illegal stuff.

Yup the law does not mean much to those who want to break it .
