Really?  One day and can't wait to go racist.

Some cry racists at everything and try to make everyone a racists .   Frankly, I'm getting a little desensitized to it.   In the context, there doesn't appear to be any racists intent.  Unless it's blatant or repeated, I prefer to give him a little charity in the matter.  This dog whistle crap seems to be getting more and more out of hand.

Ok, that's not unreasonable.  On rethinking, I suppose it's possible that 'monkey things up' is an expression with which I'm unfamiliar.  I'm willing to chalk this one up to insensitivity as opposed to racism.

I'll give Mr. DeSantis a pass until he refers to his opponent as 'that spear-chucking jungle bunny'.

I’ve never heard of “monkey things up”. Is that a phrase that people use?

I don’t even think it’s insensitive. I don’t think that we need to remove these words from the laungauge, nor do non racist think that much of them. Unless it’s clearly racist in context, I don’t think that non racist even think like that. I don’t really consider, that I should change the way I am, and how I talk, because I’m around someone who is a different race. It just doesn’t register that much.

"Monkeying around" is a phrase from my childhood. Used by white people to white people, dads to kids, and so on. I wouldn't use any "monkey" reference when talking to or about a person of color, myself, though. It could be, as we see here, taken as prejudicial/racial in nature. One of my friends told me that the difference between the south and other areas is that the people in the south (if they are racist) are up front about it, and elsewhere they're more subtle. Mostly.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

Whether the comment had an underlying racist motive or not, it was clearly racially insensitive considering the number of racists that make the black/monkey comparison on a regular basis.

Is it too much to ask from our political candidates that they think, just a little, before they speak?
