Whether the comment had an underlying racist motive or not, it was clearly racially insensitive considering the number of racists that make the black/monkey comparison on a regular basis.

Is it too much to ask from our political candidates that they think, just a little, before they speak?

Their poster boy for running one's mouth with a brain disengaged is in the White House.

They make their living polling impressions of the words they string together. De Santis was a bigoted nitwit long before he ever uttered what would be, to him, perfectly normal and okay to say.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I imagine that you make things up...which are untrue, to suit your false narrative!

And I'll bet he didn't know this about his new hero?

Quote:DeSantis Moderates Hate-Filled Facebook Group That Attacks African-Americans, Parkland Survivors and Muslims

Quote:Ron DeSantis, the Trump-endorsed congressman who won Tuesday’s GOP primary for Florida governor, is an administrator on an active Facebook group where conservatives share racist, conspiratorial and incendiary posts about a litany of targets, including black Americans and South Africans, the “deep state,” survivors of February’s massacre at a Florida high school, immigrants, Muslims and, in recent days, John McCain.

DeSantis was listed as one of the group’s 52 administrators and moderators as of Wednesday. His involvement in the group was first noted by a researcher for Media Matters for America on Tuesday.

WTF, huh?  Just like the American Legion, right?

When you're ready to stop defending him you can let us all know.  Meanwhile, I think you are as bad as he is.

I was going off the information provided. I also don’t trust that you value truth, and will lie and demonize anyone when it suits you (whether true or not). I don’t rally care what you think.

Who needs to demonize De Santis?  He gets dead flat ratings on every social issue, aka, a rank and file conservative - and has a long and well known history of racist flirtation. When he says racist shit he knows his target audience will respond. It's a useful strategy in Florida. The added bonus is that he can piggyback off saying racist shit to claiming he doesn't even know what racism is, my goodness fetch me my salts, looking to snatch a few ignorant centrists.

I'll give Mr. DeSantis a pass until he refers to his opponent as 'that spear-chucking jungle bunny'.

I don’t even think it’s insensitive. I don’t think that we need to remove these words from the laungauge, nor do non racist think that much of them. Unless it’s clearly racist in context, I don’t think that non racist even think like that. I don’t really consider, that I should change the way I am, and how I talk, because I’m around someone who is a different race.  It just doesn’t register that much.

Whelp. You've addressed your own concern.

Protip: it's not solely up to white folks to determine what is or isn't racist.

Sorry if that fatigues you or leaves you a wee bit desensitized to the whole systemic racism thingy.

Besides, who is arguing for removing words from the English language? I'm all in favour of keeping them, if for no other reason that it makes it easier to identify racist speech.

Nor, apparently, were you inclined to look.  He's an asswipe with an R after his name and that seems to be all you need.

We miss the good old sensitive you from the 1850 when you tried gently to dissuade Simon Lagree.
