No he would not. You'd make a better argument that the entire party, in the GOP economically could, if they kept all three branches, could replicate a great depression sure. But when you look at how for the past 40 years the Presidency vs the congress, in mid terms constantly flips.
While the pay gap isn't keeping up with the cost of living, I only see another Bush recession, which would be bad sure, but no, even just on economics I don't think Pence could put us in another Great Depression.
But again, lets stop worrying about him being President for 3 years if Trump steps down or gets booted out. It it is far more important to win in 18 and 2020 so they don't have that chance.

I keeping reading topic as scrotum hearings . . . .
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

The Democrats need to keep Trump on life-support until the 2020 elections. The alternative is worse, Pence, a true right-wing nut job, who might win in 2020.
Gerald Ford says hello. Also that you're wrong.
And Pence doesn't even have the advantages that Ford had on replacing Nixon. Instead of being a respected higher up in his own party, Pence is a fringe member who only joined team Dumbfuck because he'd fucked up Indiana so baldy he was going to lose the gubnetorial election.

Besides, we're already doing the silly shit people once feared from a Pence presidency. The threat of succession has lost it's edge.

Besides, now that the NYT OpEd is out, so long as the real author is not uncovered, opponents of Pence could always take a page from right wing birtherism and conspiracy theory playbook and keep alive the suspicion that he wrote it, and estrange him from trump’s base and keep him an even more worthless figurehead until he is in his own turn expelled.
