What a horrible notion!

Tiberius, I might would have believed you were sincere and capable of being objective, but then I read the above.

Pray tell me what your position is then. From all your political posts here, it seems that what you do actually want is for the government to take our money and live our lives for us. You want them to completely ban drugs, to tax the rich into oblivion, and to support a welfare state. Those are just a few examples, and they all support my summation of your position.

The government should do no more than maintain a balance between preventing our desires from being thwarted and setting an environment where we are free to fulfil them. I don't pretend to know exactly what that system would look like, but my picture is always changed by my pragmatism and which policies seem to get the best results relative to that specific goal.

What do you not like about "libertarian sentiments and political views?"
Primarily the anything goes attitude towards the proletariat.

(This post was last modified: December 20, 2010 at 4:47 am by lrh9.)
The belief that greed or the threat of starvation should be the motivation for participation in the economy is vicious.
The equation of libertarianism and deregulation with freedom and equality cannot survive scrutiny in a world where untamed capitalism means unrelenting poverty, disease, and unemployment.
I support a government which serves the general welfare of the people, not the profit of a few.

Exactly which world would that be? You're having a laugh if you think deregulated capitalism is causing poverty, disease, and unemployment in this world. There isn't a country on the planet that uses untamed capitalism. The governments of the world love messing around with the economy, and it is their fault we are in this mess in the first place.

A government that completely removes itself from the economy is not serving the profit of the few. It astounds me that you can even think otherwise. Governments should look after their people whilst not being too invasive; letting them live their lives the way they see fit as long as it does not affect the liberty of others.
