In Christ's name.. whatever we pray for in Christ's name is the condition.

What that means is we are asking on the behalf of Christ not just saying his name. this means we are restricted for the things Christ would want for us to have.

Christ taught us to pray "...Thy will be done..." As a general rule, I do not question Providence. Then again, I probably shouldn't have posted since I'm a pretty shitty Christian.

And that is the only prayer Christians are instructed to utter. Given that, the OP's question misses the mark, since any outcome can be squared with God's will.

Perhaps the OP had petition in mind?

I move that this entire thread be deleted, as the title restricts certain posters from replying.  This is a clear violation of the Rules.

Go tell Him he got it wrong then. He needed a better stenographer.  Oh, wait...

no Jesus and the stenographer got it right... that is how I was able to correct the misquote.

13 And if you ask for anything in my name, I will do it for you. Then the Father’s glory will be shown through the Son. 14 If you ask me for anything in my name, I will do it.

You do realize you're talking to an adult, right? One not prone to buying bullshit? I can't be the first one you've met.

Actually Drich has it exactly right, to pray "in His name" is about doing so in accordance with His authority. It has the same meaning as those Middle Ages proclamations the begin with "...in the name of his majesty, King Philip..." The speaker is serving as the vehicle for the King's will, not his own.

(edited after Drich kudos)

This is also why the 2nd commandment in Exodus 20, to not take the Lord's name in vain, has nothing to do with cuss words. It means claiming the authority of God to do evil or justifying terrible actions by appealing to religion. The commandment specifically says that God will not hold someone guiltless for doing so. Doing evil in the name of good is the unforgivable sin, also mentioned in Mark 3. So doing anything "in the name of Jesus" is pretty serious stuff.

This is why I make fun of and make you guys look as foolish as i can...

DESPITE what you may believe personally, your thread was based on a mis quote.
you wrote:

Quote:It says in the Bible that whatever you pray for, if you're a good Christian, it will be granted to you.

Again despite what you think about God... YOU SAID  "IT Says In The Bible..." Again God aside, by your own hand... You said it says in the bible, now again you did not reference God you referenced the bible. The bible is an actual physical publication available on line and in print. So using those resources I showed you, "It doesn't say in the bible."

Do you understand now?

Do you need to ask me to explain again, why it doesn't matter what you think about God, because you did not quote God you quoted a real book and got it wrong..

It would be like me quoting the gettysburg address by saying: About 80 or 90 years ago our founding fathers were forced to think of a new way of governing our selves because they did not want to live under the rule of a monarch, so they devised a government of for and by the people...

It's gist that loses almost all meaning, and what Lincoln was trying to convey was replaced by the mechanics of what he said.

Whether I believe in abraham lincoln or not, does not make me right/correct when I tell people I quoted the gettysburg address when I recite my own rendition. It is not the gettysburg address as that is a published speech despite what I thought or think of the one who gave it.

Do you understand?
