I think people in general would be better off without superstition. I see it all the time, not just in religion, but in all forms of broken thinking and illogical anxieties which genuinely hold people back.

I've come to believe the Gospels were literally word of God expressed differently to each Apostle, that is so they paraphrase and interpret one another.

The Torah, Psalms, and Gospels are amazing.

I used to frequent CARM, some of the bitterest disputes I've seen are amongst believers, even to the point of claiming that the other does not believe properly, or is dome kind of semi-chistian.

I've seen islamists and christians have
More polite disputes than amongst those who supposedly have the same core faith.

No. Nor do I have any idea how you got that out of my post.

But let me tell you a little bit about where I live, Neo. Most of my childhood, I've lived in rural Appalachia. I spent most of my years in a trailer of some kind or other (though we had houses at various points). I grew up very poor. My friends were all very poor. My parents did a lot of work to create structure and safety for me in my life. But not all of my friends were so lucky. So when I say something like "cursed with white trash parents" I'm not trivializing large groups of Americans in "flyover country." I'm talking about real pieces of shit that I knew growing up. People who didn't take care of their property, themselves, or their kids. My best friend lived in absolute squalor. So many times, so many children with so much potential are subjected to a life that is simply beneath them. And the real sad thing is: all that potential goes untapped because these kids are raised by people who are too stupid to recognize their potential in the first place.

I just wanted to give a little context to my "white trash" comment. You can go back and read it if you want. When I said it, I wasn't sneering at an entire American subclass. Rather, I was thinking of actual  people I knew who grew up in that subclass (an upbringing often rounded out with religious indoctrination) wanting to break free of the stranglehold of their encompassing culture. Wanting to work on their intellectual dimension... stuff like that.

And even after my childhood, my sister is an elementary school teacher, so I get to hear about her dealing with opiate-addicted assholes who decided to have kids. One girl is an honor student who often stays with my sister for extended periods. She is very, very bright, but receives ZERO help from her stupid-ass parents concerning school matters. Her home life is a mess. Her last extended stay with my sister was due to her mother having been stabbed by her father following a drunken brawl. I have disdain for these sorts of people. And I also have a handy term I use to categorize them: white trash.

As an aside, I'm sure the term could be easily applied to me, based on outward appearances (and probably has been). After all, I'm only slightly less poor than I was growing up.
