There are arguments for both sides of the debate. Until I put in the work to understand these very well, I'm not willing to issue a blanket assertion as to the success of one side or the other. Just in general, I don't want to be a person who declares what the truth is if I haven't done a good-faith investigation.
As for the seriousness of the participants, I can only judge based on the temperance and reasonableness of what they say. If they build up positions using reason and specific arguments, and show their work and respond to the inevitable attempts at rebuttal with further reasons, they come across as serious to me.
