Religions Role in Social Movements, Essential or Accidental?

RE: Religions Role in Social Movements, Essential or Accidental?
It’s kind of weird, effecting social change would appear to be trying to defy God's plan. What’s wrong with slaughtering each other and keeping slaves? He loved all that stuff.

For every positive that can be claimed for societal religion(s) throughout history, a negative can be claimed also.

Pointing at history proves nothing because we have no clue what history would be like without religion.

I will say this, we have outgrown religions usefulness because of all it's negatives. Time to fade and die.

I consider religion to be a brake on every positive attempt at human advancement.

When humanity needs help to avoid drowning religion throws it an anchor.

There will always be poor people who will bow before religion.

Maybe for awhile, but ultimately doubtful once recognized as the social pariah it ends up being.

Seems evident to me that it’s as accidental as the geography and time of a persons birth. “Oh what luck that I’ve been born into the only true religion, to a nice Christian family in the Southern US.”

“Oh what luck that I’ve been born into the only true religion, to a nice Muslim family in Pakistan.”

... and so on and so forth.

A lot of social movements have been to do with undoing bigoted dogma spread by religion in the first place.
