Or that around the time that Malcolm was speaking, a "new left" had arisen which was already distancing itself from the "white liberals" to which Malcolm refers -- a previous generation which had drifted too far in to the mainstream?

Few socio-political issues are easily reduced to black/white -- there's a whole lotta gray in there too, that you need to look at.

There's some elitism to be found in most large social movements -- people who enjoy the attention and perks of leadership, who superficially play the game, and pander to build up their own image.  
Insincere "white liberals" don't have a lock on that.

I do think it's suspicious that white liberals tend to live in the whitest cities. Portland is literally the whitest major city in America. I mean, isn't it a little racist to want to live in the whitest areas you can find?

Portland is also very segregated.

San Francisco is less than 7% African Americans

My little hick city in Florida that they would surely turn their nose up to is 4 times as black and far more integrated than either
