Saudi journalist killed and hacked inside Saudi embassy in Istanbul
RE: Saudi journalist killed and hacked inside Saudi embassy in Istanbul
Larger forces are at work, here, Atlas. Trump's sticking with the Saudi's has the superficial appeal of benefitting the U.S. in terms of military sales, oil, and containing the aims and intents of a dangerous Muslim state (Iran). Whether or not doing so will actually achieve these aims or whether Trump even thinks that they will is irrelevant. These themes sell well to Trump's political base and improve his chances both of achieving things while in office as well as being re-elected in 2020. It's not about human rights or truth or anything noble. It's not even about Saudi Arabia. It's about Trump, and how he can use a relationship with Saudi Arabia to his advantage. So crying about human rights, or the truth, or about Saudi Arabia, in hopes that it will result in a change of policy in the U.S. and the Trump administration is misguided.

Regarding that leaked CIA assessment that Mohammed bin Salman ordered the hit, I found NPR's interview this morning with former acting CIA director John McLaughlin to be quite interesting:

https://www.npr.org/2018/11/19/669145253...ggis-death

Near the end of the piece, McLaughlin -- obviously reluctantly -- concedes that, unacceptable as leaked classified information is, in this case it might not have been a bad thing, given the President's lack of credibility.

I'll let that speak for itself.

After Khashoggi murder, some Saudi royals turn against king’s favorite son

Quote:LONDON (Reuters) - Amid international uproar over the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, some members of Saudi Arabia’s ruling family are agitating to prevent Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman from becoming king, three sources close to the royal court said.

Dozens of princes and cousins from powerful branches of the Al Saud family want to see a change in the line of succession but would not act while King Salman - the crown prince’s 82-year-old father - is still alive, the sources said. They recognize that the king is unlikely to turn against his favorite son, known in the West as MbS.

Rather, they are discussing the possibility with other family members that after the king’s death, Prince Ahmed bin Abdulaziz, 76, a younger full brother of King Salman and uncle of the crown prince, could take the throne, according to the sources.

Prince Ahmed, King Salman’s only surviving full brother, would have the support of family members, the security apparatus and some Western powers, one of the Saudi sources said.

And of course when there is a crime this fucktard administration can't avoid getting involved.

Quote:Trump’s Secretary of State hand-delivered plan to protect Saudi crown prince from murder probe: report

Quote:Secretary of State Mike Pompeo personally delivered a roadmap to Saudi King Salman to help his son, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, insulate himself from the investigation into the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

The Trump administration official hand-delivered the plan last month in Riyadh, exactly two weeks after Khashoggi’s brutal murder Oct. 2 inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, reported Middle East Eye.

I totally agree with you except that the interest of the U.S is not involved at all in Trump's agenda: but the interest of himself and the wing he is representing.

Trump gained a lot -personally- from supporting the Sauds, I wonder how much unofficial payments -bribes- were made to buy him by MBS. Also the Oligarch class -which dominates the leadership of Republicans- is totally wanting MBS in power:

--The Oligarchs and the Republican party and Russia (from Haartz: an Israeli report):
https://www.haaretz.com/us-news/know-you...-1.6113189

Trump is loyal to them. I don't know if this is like the "motherfuckers united" club that involves an alliance of rich fucks from Russia to the U.S; with Trump being a member of it -president of the U.S- and Putin also -president of Russia- along with Arab regimes like the Saudi regime and the UAE regime.

I agree there are higher powers, but they have nothing to do with the U.S or its interest. Trump is milking the U.S and almost the whole world out of their wealth.

Actually lots of royals took their choice a long ago:

1-The crown prince Mohammed Bin Salman
2-Trump as an ally

On the other side:
1-Rest of the Saudi royal family
2-I don't know who is allying with them

The current crown prince made a lot of enemies inside the royal family, he did so with the Wahhabies too. Being a ruthless, hated dictator, he just brought blood and oppression on so many.

There were similar incidents in the previous months; and the clashes were bloody and caused fatalities. But these look like the start of something very bad.

There were reports from that time (2017), and the sides already manifested. But I will blame the delay on the "fear" the royal family is living; all are scared from turning into a Kashoggi-like case.

Yup.  Murrica First.  This admin has indicated that they're willing to turn a blind eye and abandon our place on the world stage as a country committed to the values of western democracy, for a price.  That's what it looks like, Atlass, when america doesn't "meddle" in other countries affairs.

Good luck with that, aren't you happy that you're getting what you've always wanted! Wink
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Trump is not turning a blind eye at this point; he's abandoning ship.

The weapon deals to supply the kingdom with arsenals of military high-tech has nothing to do with "turning a blind eye".

"Turning a blind eye" is what America have been doing for decades of seeing the crimes of the Sauds but keep on supplying them with everything from weapons to intelligence reports.

But in the time of previous administrations, the "blindness" was for America's sake and interests, but in Trump's time it's for personal gains and the gains of the real masters of this asshole: the Oligarchs in the U.S, Russia and who knows where also.

TBH, it's more of a lighter burning the hand of Americans; getting chopped by the monster they inflated for so long, America had a very long time to build a system that punishes corrupt fucks like Trump and the Sauds, but the blind "following of interest" blinded the majority of politicians in the white house from standing by the side of justice.

I know that the truth of any given matter is wholly immaterial to your great satan compulsion..but, yes, turning a blind eye to the shitty things that other countries do is exactly what's happening.  There's money to be had, not nearly as much as scrotus says..but still.  Yes, we did have a long time to build such a system, and we did build it.  We lead it.  Now, we're abandoning it.

Nothing to do with us, that's a you problem. GL with your you problem, murrica first. You know -why- this resonated with so many trumpsters? Because we're damned if we do and damned if we don't. Think about that, think about the support your viewpoint gave trump, lol. Whole world full of ungrateful pricks and then they get all pissy when we finally throw our hands up and say "fuck it, you do you, then".....lelz.

I would like to give you a friend's advice concerning your use of the word "we" to describe what the U.S government at this time.
There is no we; but lots of "they". America has never been more divided than this, and all the problems we see now match what falling empires go through at the very end.

You see, the warfare between the democrats and the republicans have never been more fierce. Also the rise of the Oligarchs is very scary, the use of savage tactics like populism to rule is even more evident that the scene is changing.

Let Satan rot for now; we very much know that the case of Kashoggi has nothing to do with human rights or Kashoggi himself: it's all about a "punch to the groin" launched from the wing of Hilary and Obama to the wing of Trump; or in more abstract words: an attack from "the military industrial complex" to the "Oligarchs".

All of this Kashoggi case is one way to launch an impeachment against Trump, justifying it; in other words.
