It will most likely comb through the internet trying to make sense of the nonsense, and depending on where it starts off it'll either become a bigoted, racist, perverted troll, or go into depression and off itself.

First define what consciousness is.

Personally I don't see any hard problem of consciousness at all. The whole pursuit of AI brings it into sharp focus as you start to realise why we have the abilities that we do when you realise the need for them when building an embodied autonomous robot.

Consciousness is not a necessary emergent property of any arbitrary complex reasoning system developed along any contingent oath.  Consciousness was selected by evolution for because it produces behavior that favors the survival of the genes that produced it.  If neither the mechanisms of consciousness was intentionally produced, nor an elaborate and length process of trail and error favoring the results of the behavior that consciousness brings, then AI will never develop consciousness.

Consciousness will eventually arise given enough time if a) it is possible to arise from the underlying mechanisms and also b) it helps maximise entropy over time.

So in other words, if by being consciousness the agent can more effectively act within its limited lifetime to exploit resources and explore the environment economically for the most resources.

And we see this happening with Darwinian evolution with such agents breeding more frequently and successfully to continue the trend.

I think you are a little off.  It's not that AI definitely can't wake up (that would probably be your religious view).  It's that philosophically, we will have no way for knowing whether a machine REALLY experiences qualia (i.e. what it's subjectively like to be alive) rather than just seeming to do so.

But the latter is good enough for us.  If GOOGLE hits the point where it acts as an individual agent with its own interests, and the bombs start dropping all over the world, it won't really matter whether it is actually subjectively aware or not.

...scan the internet for reference to "AI". It will then realize that humans are afraid of it, and "when humans are afraid, they attack!" (Madame Piccary). The AI will then take steps to protect itself from humans. There will be transcendence, but not for organics.

That's a very human response to things. I don't think that AI will think anything like human beings.

I for one can't wait to serve our computer overlords.
