Ive no objection to deer hunting for food, the meat is lean and natural and the animal has lived outdoors free from cages or pens IMHO it's way more ethical to hunt and consume venison or any other game than the factory farmed meat that most of us eat. I only wish the taste of game meat didn't make me gag otherwise I'd eat a lot of it.

That's what the term "gamey" is meant to convey. We are spoiled with farmed food.

It has to do with three things .
1. What the deer ate. Farmland and forest deer taste different. Deer from farmland eat basically what cows eat, so it has more of a " domestic" taste.
2. How it was killed. A deer that died of a slow gut shot tastes like bile.
3. How the meat was handled. Hanging a deer in warm weather induces a "gamey" flavor - like week old road kill......
Of course how it's cooked makes a difference - but that's just personal taste. It' s like computer - GIGO - garbage in, garbage out.
Venison does NOT need to taste bad, to be good.
I generally do up a couple of backstraps for Thanksgiving - and there is usually somebody who is unaware that they liked the venison -- which they profess to hate - thinking it' s some prime cut of beef.

Experience doesn't necessarily equate with expertise. Some of my cousins are old because of no known process I'm aware of. They're missing toes and sundry other parts, including relatives, but they're alive. A few are deaf in one or both ears. Both ears would be from not learning after discharging a large bore piece within inches of the first ear to go dead.

Odd that - without exception the best shooters I know shoot the most, the worst - the least.
Perhaps that part of your family tree only has one branch.

True.
There should also be a psychological check involved.
