OLB, what's your killing stick of choice?
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

It's changed over the last few years due to changes in the rules. It used to be shotgun, pistol and muzzleloader only. They have opened it up to include rifles chambered in certain cartridges - mostly pistol calibers. I was using a 12 gauge bolt action I built 10 years ago. Worked great. Killed dozens of deer. Expensive ammo. Kicked like a mule. Longest shot 276 yards. I went to a single shot .357 mag H+R. Good groups out to 150 yards. Took several deer with it. Did not have any problem being underpowered - highly recommended for congested areas- as the bullets do not through penetrate. This year I' m going with a CVA Hunter - a single shot break action in .450 Bushmaster. Very good groups out to 250 yards. More kinetic energy than the average 12 GA slug. Moderate recoil. If the 450 proves out a good cartridge - next year I will get a 450 upper receiver and stick it on my Bushmaster lower. My buddy got one - and between the muzzle brake and the autoload action - it tames the felt recoil very well. RE: 13 days to Deermageddon

Hunters get a bad rap for no reason at all. They are necessary to keep deer populations in check, since our ancestors basically wiped out all the predators from North America.
Most of them have a lot of respect for nature, since they spend a lot of time there. It's also way more noble way to get your meat than from a factory farm.
I try not to spend too much time out there... It' s cold.
I hunt in a heated blind with carpeting and a flat screen TV. Instead of camo I wear sweats and fuzzy slippers. Opening day stars with donuts and fresh coffee.. .... Any moron can go out in the woods and be miserable.. RE: 13 days to Deermageddon

I'm not sure what state you are from, but in Wyoming, hunters like a little suffering with their hunting. It makes the meat taste better. I definitely don't know anyone with a carpeted deer blind! That is - I have my blind in the center of 80 acres of open field. I have sat there for an entire week without seeing a deer. That' s from sun- up to sunset. I originally built the blind with a fold down bed - and would sleep out there too. And yes - there' s a chemical toilet too. Plus a sink for washing dishes. And a stove. All inside 8 foot x 8 foot walls. 25 feet above ground level. Lots of books get read. Lots of radio gets listened to. ( headphones) a fair bit of TV gets watched was well... If I had to sit outside that many hours, it'd probably kill me. RE: 13 days to Deermageddon
