IKR? I have to drive a half an hour to get it...and I live in gun country.
-actually thinking of buying a .270, btw. Love that flat shot. Already ditched 22long for .17wsm. pop pop pop BANG!.

Gotta remember - GB went to .308 NATO 75 years ago.
That there is ANY surplus .303 left is a testiment to the Brits love of stockpiling.

There's always reloading.
And BTW - 270 is an excellent round - that's completely unpopular - but widely available.
3 years ago when most stores had little or no ammo - there were piles of .270 - at the pre- shortage price.
I' d get one - but I have plenty of 30-06 rifles and 2 lifetimes supply of ammo. Not a great deal you can do with a 270 that you can't with an 06 - and vice versa.

Meh, too much work to be worth my time. Besides, my muzzleloader eats up whatever powder I keep on hand.
Yeah, I was looking into that, years ago (the 270)..the performance at common ranges..and it just blew my mind that people weren't going nuts over em. This, ofc, in the context of the sorts of bait and ambush hunting common to the eastern woodlands and midwest cornfields.
I can see wanting a bigger round if you were way out west, but otherwise...... : throws hands in the air :

I have a whole cabinet full of them. Brown Bess, a Napoleonic Charleville, a Springfield and a Zouave civil war rifled muskets. And a couple of 50 cal. hunting rifles. I also have a cap and ball pistol.
I haven't taken the long guns out in years. Can't focus on the front and rear sights with a single pair of glasses anymore.
