What do moderates think Jesus died for?

He was avoiding his creditors. Back then if was proven that you were dead they wiped the slate clean. He just went the extra mile by going 3 days because we was a fucking show off.

I think most moderate Christians are well aware of the problems and deliberately avoid examining the religion too closely.

Then WTF did he let himself get killed? According to the story he had divine powers and would've been able to escape, but chose not to. Some say he didn't fight, because he was peaceful, but if he had magic powers, he could've protected himself without hurting anybody. If he wanted to just teach some lessons, why didn't he leave right away or use some invisible shield or something? Why did he come on earth in the first place? Why didn't he use telepathy to communicate? Why did he leave?
Do these moderates actually believe that Jesus was just human?
There is another thing, my parents are moderates themselves and raised me christian, yet they never told me they interpretation to why Jesus let himself getting killed. They didn't tell me about many concepts of this religion that they believe in. Why? Having a wrong opinion is one thing, but having literally no structure when teaching said opinion to your only child is fucking ridiculous.

You are correct that the moderate story doesn't hold together, but neither does the fundamentalist story.  We are supposed to believe that God offered himself as a sacrifice to prevent himself from throwing people into Hell because of the original sin of Adam and Eve.  What kind of sense does that make?  How is original sin a rational idea?  Plus God could could have just forgiven humans outright, or admitted his own mistake in creating them to begin with.

In my opinion, any Christian interpretation of the Bible sweeps certain problems under the rug.

The entire garden story is a vile story to me. You have an allegedly all powerful casino boss, who sets up the poker game as to which to innocent poker chips have no say in how the game works, have no knowledge of the bet, and not only a bet, but a rigged bet, with marked cards, God wins and knows he will win. There is no consent in that story for the Eve and Adam characters. The God character is blaming the victims for the game he set up himself but did not have to.

As far as I can tell, Jesus died for being a subversive. Crucified

It is obvious someone, but more likely a group of people started the religion, otherwise it would not exist. But, it still remains there is no such thing as a baby born without a second set of DNA who has magic super powers who goes on to die surviving rigor mortis as the bible have you believe.

It is simply another hero motif, but most certainly not the first in religious history.

Moderate Christians want an insurance policy just in case we fundies are right. They want their cake and eat it too. Well it can't work that way, you either believe in the whole Bible and the person it represents or you don't believe in the saving power of Jesus. It's rather simple as the Bible states.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Jesus died so that we can be reconciled to God.

1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

It was also an example to us.

1 John 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

Well, I disagree that the Bible is true, but you might be right about the moderates view, at least in some cases.

Um....I didn't eat the apple. The whole salvation story is bunk.
