Surreal day on the job...more of the same on the way.

RE: Surreal day on the job...more of the same on the way.
Drich reads post where church tells awty to not call 911 "no matter what you see"

then tells awty he's the one who doesn't want to be held accountable.

lolwut
If you're frightened of dying, and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. But if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the Earth.

The Bible doesn't say that.

Sad when people waste their lives like that, God gave doctors the brains and skills to help the sick, it's his way of working through mankind. He can and does heal through miracles without doctors being involved. You see though not all Christians believe the way your mum's friend did.

So you think that all believers are partial idiots, that's bigotry. What's an atypical believer never heard of one of those? So you believe that Christians act like real people until they become concerned for your eternal life, now that seems to be an atypical atheist statement.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Yeah, GC is right: look into the Bible to understand its followers. And if you look at the Bible you'll find out that God has a huge army in Heaven because he is scared that the Satan will rob him and kill him, so if a God is a scared little bitch you can imagine what his followers are since they consider themselves lower life forms.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

It was repeated in the security briefing several times that no matter what you call an internal number.  Their staff will respond and then decide if outside assistance should be called.  This includes medical emergencies.  No exceptions to the rule.

What a cult like thing to say. That would make me very uncomfortable.

How much do you need this job?

What was really odd to me was how many times it was repeated that no matter what you see/hear or think you see/hear...you are not to call 911...period, end of story. You are to call an internal number and report the problem if they deem it necessary. So, if you walk past a room that full of flames - not totally unthinkable since there's a big industrial kitchen - you are not to call 911.

Why would that be a rule?

Yes, due to the fact that you aren't supposed to contact 911 under circumstances where you would call 911 at any other time it makes me wonder what they are so paranoid about and what they think has to be covered up.

There are other things too...most of which have little to do with religion or my atheism. But thanks to all the Christians who thought they needed to jump in.

Sorry if a Christian's input wasn't wanted arewethereyet. One last thing I'll say then is from the above it sounds like they don't want accountability for something. There are churches that practice self flagellation, casting of demons, community fasting, some oppose protections for human rights, public corporal punishment, promote terrorism and "holy wars", advocate political agendas (invalidates their tax protections, btw), I'm sure many other things. If you see something illegal, report it to police. If you see something questionable, report it to them internally, then report it to the police if you feel it necessary. </my 2 cents>

So if you went to work for a company who deal with highend people and they have their own personal security and tell you there are procedures and protocols in place that would have you call their internal number and not call 911, you would have a problem with this?

If you worked for obama and the SS said don't call 911 call them you would have a problem?

what about your fav movie star who has personal security?

Know it or not sport that kinda is a thing with people on the other side middle class. things are done internally as to filter and minimalism exposure across the board it is not a christian thing... which make me believe the problem you have is Christians are doing it/need to live like high end ballers. (for the lack of a 2019 term).. that Christians also need this level of protection/or subversively someone like you can't just come in and start making empty claims.. you almost sound like a spoiled white guy who see his darker yellow complected dry cleaner driving a much nicer car than he has..

I'd actually be alarmed if anyone I worked for told me to not call 911 "no matter what." Just seems creepy. Having security doesn't put you above the law, regardless of how nice your organization is. Sounds shady as fuck.

I've worked in a few environments in which there was a designated person who decided whether to call the police or not.

Places of worship can be a bit uptight about police being called because of the tradition of sanctuary. In the US, there is no right of sanctuary, and churches can't harbor criminals. But a lot of church people don't agree with that, and think the church should still be a place of refuge. And churches have actively harbored a lot of people from illegal immigrants in our times, to runaway slaves in the mid 19th century. It doesn't really surprise me that a baptist church is uptight about it police entering the sanctuary.

In the synagogues that I have belonged to there was no problem with calling the police. But that's in the US where we trust the cops quite a bit. In one, we even had panic buttons distributed throughout the building, and all regular members were expected to memorize the location of each one.
