For example, gravity. It took a genius to get the first good grasp on it, and he needed an assist from an apple. But any good ole boy can understand acceleration. "A '57 Chevy with a 396 c.i.d. engine will gravity your ass, son!" So it's easier to think the Earth is accelerating constantly than it is to understand why the Australians don't fall off the planet.
