Meanwhile, the glades are thoroughly restricted, but there are bounties. Since florida has a fair amount of unemployed and underemployed people, and since they have an on again off again affair with work requirements for social safety net benefits...perhaps the lazy and idle takers could spend their considerable manhours helping the state to clear out the glades?

Nah, floridians are pretty good at killing shit, lol. Be alot more snakebites, but snakebites in the glades are already the norm.

We're just talking about exterminating invasives, Sama. I find it incredible that human beings can accidentally kill the native flora and fauna but somehow fail to intentionally kill off the other set. We're not committed enough, I think, is the issue. We're thoroughly committed to the accidents - and if the goal was to kill shit then that;s a success. We should replicate that.
Make the control of invasives as seductive to wingnut ideology as the destruction of native wildlife is and there won;t be hide or hair left in a few decades.

Invasive elimination as practiced is mostly an issue of trapping. Still, trapping has it's limits, particularly in WMA's, where it's difficult to exclude non-targeted game.

No kill traps are a bit of a pleasant euphemism, but yeah..they get employed. More of them and more people to tend them would be useful.
It's just something I think about everytime the floridian lege starts waxing about it's next billion dollar corporate welfare scheme while simultaneously bitching about all the poors on the public dole in a tourist state. We've been destroying the income source for some time..it wasn't pristine when I was a kid, by any means...but just a few decades later it's largely unrecognizable to me.
There are parking lots where i used to get crabs and shrimp, lol.

I happened to look at an address on Collins that was my primary residence "a while back". It's a boutique now.
