Is blackface always offensive?

RE: Is blackface always offensive?
Gene Wilder and Dan Aykroyd seemed to get away with it, so not always.

Context, set and setting.

This has a lot to do with the kind of SJW/feminist shit that is apparently being taught in schools and universities now.

I've must have missed all those times the SJWs were up in arms about people who historically wore black face wearing black face for purposes of a documentary or something, or mixed race couples dressed as each other being hoisted up for sacrifice. Every single time I hear about a 'black face incident', there were no such extenuating circumstances.

I normally don't bother explaining this sort of stuff to Americans, because I'm convinced they only pretend they don't understand what the problem is.
It's much easier than admitting that you resent n****** and just don't give a fuck.

Anyhow...

Depends on who you ask.

If you're a relatively decent person or a member of the race that's being demeaned and caricatured as lazy, shuffling, cartoonishly stupid, monkey-like beings that don't quite meet the standards of being regarded as human, then yes, it is offensive.

If you enjoy blackface and/or see no problem with it, then it's a rip-roaring good time; Harmless fun to had by all.
People who respond negatively to it are just troublemakers and trying to spoil your n***** fun. Wink

I think racist jokes are fine, as long as the butt of the joke is the racist. Like, if you were to don blackface to make fun of the people who donned blackface in order to insult black people. I honestly say racial slurs all the time, but the joke isn't on the race in question. I'm laughing at how ridiculous the joke sounds. I don't know if I'm explaining that right, but there it is.

Like in Blazing Saddles?

That would seem a clear manifestation of the sort of spirit you’re trying to convey. You’d have to be an idiot to see this and NOT think the ignorant racist assholes are the butt of the joke.

(Fun fact: Burton Gilliam, who played the racist foreman, kept apologizing to Cleavon Little for having to use the N-word, and he had to take him aside and say it was okay since they weren’t his words (they were Mel Brooks’ and also Richard Pryor’s, since it was apparently his idea to drop all those N-bombs in the script) although he added that "If I thought you would say those words to me in any other situation we'd go to fist city, but this is all fun. Don't worry about it.")

I assume, obviously, after the 30 minutes it took for him to locate the member in question.

RE: Is blackface always offensive?
In a thread supposedly concerned with offending people, I find it extremely hypocritical that some people consider it fine to be as offensive, judgemental and arrogant as they like, as long as it’s directed towards someone who the in-group consider to hold a "wrong" opinion.

Really disappointing. I’ve noticed this going on in other threads too. Just insult people so that the wrong opinions either go away or submit to attacks from groupthink. The insults don’t count because they are righteous. I was recently driven away from another forum in exactly the same way.

I’m not going to bother to elaborate on what I actually meant, as people seem quite happy to just make up stories about me and put me in neat little boxes.
