RIP thread
RE: RIP thread
The psychological trauma of having been repeatedly betrayed and made a fool of in matters deeply consequential to one's own life. They're ready to believe and do anything if it means they weren't all wrong about everything the whole time...and obviously so.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

These shifts reverse a four-year trend of rising concern about immigration that began in 2021 and reflect changes among all major party groups.

A fitting context for an exploration of america's eulogy.  Mass deportation and immigration are popular with the majority of americans.  How did we get into such a weird place where both things are simultaneously true, and can even be true of an individual person?

On the one hand, we have people who believe that too many of the wrong sorts of people came here, it's hurting america, and it's because they're brown.  On the other, that too many people came here the wrong way, it's hurting america, and they just so happen to be brown.  We would find that both cohorts massively overestimate the number of Those People.  They've been given reason to.  Replacement narratives have made deep inroads on both sides of that divide.  It's also true that we are hurting.

The difference between them lies in specific ignorance, but not in practical outcomes.  Racial and ethnographic essentialism on the right, and the disparity between how people think government is and how government actually is, in the middle and on the left.  Take the recent raid on sk contractors.  The right wing thinks these are the wrong sort of people, and they're stealing from america.  Nothing more needs be said.  Many....many people in the middle and on the left, however, believe that there was a "right way" for a big company to get foreign contractors into the us in the first place, making them rule breakers. Takers...again.  There was not.  Precisely zero sk contractors could be here "the right way" because their national quota of "proper visas" is exactly zero.

In sum....we need alot more people, but only the right kind of people, who came here the right way. It wouldn't matter if this were true in fact (and it isn't). It's wrong in spirit.

Dear god, please stop killing us, amen?

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
