I met him in 2003 when I was a charter boat captain in the Florida Keys. He was surprisingly down to Earth. I would occasionally run charters out of the Ocean Reef club in Key Largo, a resort for the rich and famous. I usually hated it because not surprisingly, rich people on vacation can be incredible pains in the ass. Mr. Hackman and most of his party were a breath of fresh air. Nice people.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

My guess is that Hackman figured out his days were numbered (dude is 95, after all) and his wife couldn’t go on without him and they figured out that just leaving their dog alone is too cruel (it seems like it took a while to discover the bodies) and added it to the pact. Then again, that’s just my morbid mind looking for an explanation. I hope to Hell I’m wrong about this and your guess is right. For what it’s worth, CO is the family’s guess, but it’s not like those two are necessarily mutually exclusive.

They are reporting that the gas company is involved in the investigation. Probably carbon monoxide or a gas leak. Also heard they had been dead a few days before a neighbor called for a welfare check.
