Let's take it away from Religion then, if you don't think that will go anywhere or that I have some ulterior motive. Va Beach boardwalk has a no cursing law. Can I curse... yes. Should I curse.. apparently not according to that local legislation. Will I get penalized for cursing, depends. How does limiting something add do the plurality of the situation. I'm not advocating that anything goes, because hate speech and incitement is a thing. One side certainly feels constrained in what they can say and where, and the other side feels justified that taking what they're doing is better or right. Should we be curtailing unwanted social behaviors another way?
@arewethereyet -ok fair enough. I don't particularly want anyone here to say anything, nor do I believe we agree on a definition of evangelism, but I digress. You're right, the burqua(sp?) ban was a bit of fluff, yet there are burqua bans in some countries. It was meant to start a conversation on whether we should limit and on what criteria and that marginalizing effect restrictions have.
The burqa is not the same as a Hijab. Go back to your post - you brought up Hijab - word games. If you are going to start using other religious/cultural things to back yourself up you should try to know what you are talking about...at least a little bit.
Then get back to me on what evangelize means and we'll talk about the significance of dreadlocks for some people and maybe we can talk about the Rosary while we are at it. Maybe a discussion on Santeria.
Try to stay on track and stuff the word games in your ear.

Va beach boardwalk regs are a lot like public drunkenness regs. They don’t mean you can’t curse or that you can’t get drunk.
Here again, though, we see that there is no equivalence between freedom of belief and freedom of action, and that additionally, any freedom of action we have is not absolute.
The “other side” doesn’t want to have to deal with our drunken shitmouths.....but go ahead with the fun exercise in framing.

Kids bully, and people judge. Giving into peer pressure or compromising your beliefs aren't going to stop that because people also love to steam roll over perceived weakness. Oh, and I think I would, but with my privilege and bias it's hard to know for certain.
It’s probably a little different because, as a Christian, you have beliefs. I have beliefs to, but they have nothing to do with atheism. That’s just a lack of belief. Joining a prayer is just as much “compromising my beliefs” as pretending to believe in Santa for the sake of someone else’s kid. It doesn’t compromise my beliefs at all. I would never encourage my children to compromise their beliefs. And I would never pressure my children to say or not say a prayer regardless of their beliefs. If they want to say a prayer so other kids won’t think they’re weirdos then that’s cool with me and if they choose not to say a prayer because they think prayer is silly and they don’t care what other kids think, that’s fine too. What isn’t fine is an adult putting them in that situation in the first place. I don’t care if it’s about religion, financial status, or whatever other thing...it’s just never okay for an adult to put a child in a situation that makes them uncomfortable or sets them up for getting picked on.

You not being allowed to force everyone else too have to cow tow to your religious beliefs is not a form of discrimination.
