It seems to me that you are the view that life doesn't posses any intrinsic meaning, only the extrinsic meanings human beings attach to it? Would that be accurate, regardless of whether you reject the nihilist label or not?

So you think you know what an atheist thinks better than he does?  That's funny.   Hehe

No, I'm just trying to reiterate what you seen too be implying, and asking whether that's accurate.

Quote:Humans create all meaning, including yours.  You are no different in how you derive meaning than I am.  You just tell yourself myths about it.

You're right I don't think there is much of a difference in how you or I derive meaning, though our views about it are different.

I think the statements that we create meaning, whether relative or not, is false.

We don't create meaning we find meaning.

If someone said they find life meaningless, we couldn't just say well if you just created your own meaning, than this wouldn't be an issue. In reality we might suggest they do a variety of things, in which we think they might find meaning in, such as spending time with loves ones, joining a community, etc...

I'm a dad, I find the idea of being a good father very meaningful. I didn't create this meaning, so the question could be why do I find it meaningful, is it because other human beings/society cajoled me into finding it meaningful? Or is the meaning here deeper than a purely human construct?

In my view there is some sort of intrinsic meaning to reality we occupy, thats not our own creation, which I acknowledge in the desire to be a good father, instead of seeing it as something society coerced me into believing, or a trick of my biological makeup.

Then there you go. There’s no reason that an atheist has to reject dad-meaning...which you think is intrinsic meaning.

The term atheist doesn’t refer to people who don’t believe in dads, or intrinsic meaning.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Strawman. I never claimed atheists can't believe in intrinsic meaning.

Atheist can believe anything they want about reality. They can believe the world is 6000 years old, Adam and Eve were real people, and they lived in a garden with a talking snake, they can believe Jesus rose from the dead, in miracles, the supernatural, etc... The only thing they can't believe in is God, whatever that may mean.

Lol, okay buddy. Let’s not pretend that you haven’t been injecting yourself into multiple threads with the same batshit arguments in each instance.

Since you understand that there’s no barrier in atheism to intrinsic meaning, or dad meaning...then we’ll never have to see that again, and you’ll never demand that atheists account for it again...right?

Here, I’ll even try to help you out with a show of hands call. Acro considers dad-meaning to be intrinsic meaning.

How many atheists believe that there is no such thing as dad meaning?

I'll take your "dad-meaning" to be just another attempt on your part to troll.

As I indicated an atheist can believe in all sorts of stuff, such as a Adam Eve and 6000 year old earth, Moses Departing an entire sea, etc... This doesn't mean they can account for it. Because accounting for it, is question of what makes such things possible. You don't need to answer that question to be an atheist.

Vulcan can believe in a Platonic conception of the Good, and be an atheist. I don't know how he accounts for it in his atheistic view of reality, so I'll continue to challenge that by questioning his beliefs.

Judging that so far no atheists in this thread has indicated that they believe reality possess intrinsic meaning, but that meaning is extrinsic, created by us, there is no particular atheist here for me to ask how they account for such a belief.

RE: How to easily defeat any argument for God
In every single thread you’ve splattered this nonsense in, people have explained how they account for whatever meaning they espouse.

This has not stopped you from hitting the repeat button on the next thread, and obviously you have no interest in ever unclogging your ears, in any thread, no matter who answers your questions, or how many times they answer them.

Here’s the kicker, you’re never going to think that anyone has answered your questions.....because you don’t know what you’re talking about in the first place. The newest example being you thinking that your dad-meaning is intrinsic meaning.

Carry on.

Please specify which "crap" you think I have made up. It would be better to give links, quotes, etc.

I'll be happy to give my sources, or reasons. If I have accidentally "made up" something I'll apologize.

That ship has most definitely sailed.

You have made a number of assertions about me.

Normally we say that the one making the assertions carries the burden of proof. Does this apply to you also?

Again, if you have any disagreement with what I've said, I'll be happy to support my statement or acknowledge that it was wrong.

You'll have to address specifics, rather than this general no-details condemnation.

Sure. Everyone is trolling except you. Well that is really plausible, is it not?

Name one atheist who believes that crap.

Stop the presses, some atheists have no given it a whole bunch of your crap. Shock. Horror.

But you exempt theists from the very same question because......waiting for a reason.......no? Then shut up.

Pay attention. It is not a matter of belief. Somehow you cling to the stupid notion that evolution is a matter of religious faith. It isn't.

Wow. That dumb-ass old chestnut. I thought that was dead and buried. Now you want to rehabilitate it as though nobody had ever seen it before? Fucking amateur.
