Because it denied slaves their humanity, sustained through hatred, cruelty and  lies, such as blacks were less than whites. It required the denial of black people as people no less than you or I. It wasn’t wrong because people calculated that it would be harmful for the wellbeing of society in the long run, it was seen as wrong inspite  of such a consideration.

You can reword what you just said in terms of wellbeing. Denying slaves their humanity is akin to saying it's disregarding their wellbeing. There is no need to calculate in this case anyway. It's clear it's wrong.

Wellbeing seems to be used as some sort of catch all phrase, so vague that it could be used pretty much for any offense you can think of. Calling religious people delusion, is harmful for their wellbeing. Insults are harmful to wellbeing. Not getting married or having children harmful to the well being of particular societies. Cancelling Alex Jones on YouTube, is harmful to his wellbeing, breaking up with your girlfriend, was harmful to her wellbeing, etc...

You’re thinking more of hedonistic pleasure and pain, happiness and unhappiness. Well-being is a compound property, like health.

Insults can certainly make a person unhappy, but this might be a necessary function of their desired effect. They may promote wellbeing, and I don’t see any room for you to waffle in this after having laid out the benefits to “well-being”......of slavery.

You should do basic research before you criticize moral views immensely more granular and well formed than your own. The supernatural subjectivism you employ has you constantly searching for the sorts of deontology limited to cave walls and magic books.

At some point, you’ll simply have to learn that the absence of a primitive “insult bad” declaration is a feature of the more accurate moral schemes you reject, not an issue.

Sure insults hurt bobs wellbeing, leave him agitated and more likely to be be more irritable and mean to others, maybe even feel depressed or worthless, raise his blood pressure and stress levels, cause him to binge eat unhealthy foods etc...

Insulting people can fuel resentment in them. In fact we prohibit such behavior among teachers, in the workplace etc.. as a result. Call one of your coworkers delusional and you’ll likely get fired, for fostering an unhealthy workplace.

There’s no agreed upon definition of wellbeing, that excludes such an example as an inappropriate use of the term, in fact we can use such an example and agree on the ways Bob wellbeing is impacted by insults, without having to agree on the morality of insulting him.

Researching even the broadest strokes of -any- definition of well being would have prevented you from stuffing your foot into your mouth for the umpteenth time.

Hell, having even a rudimentary understanding of the basic terms objectivity and subjectivity would have preempted any need to research wellbeing specifically.
