It's getting closer to election time.  Trump's handlers are telling him to backpedal on the white supremacy thing.

He can say what he wants - his past actions and unbelievable remarks are there for all of us to see/hear.  

I think his crew know that things have finally gone too far and they are trying to run damage control.  All they can hope for is that he stays on script.

I could argue that this is the reason for his election. While a lot of people took the exclusion path ( I'm right, your are dumb just trust me), Trum exploited inclusion. Not by trying to change people's minds by disccusing with them, but by giving them the feeling that they matter and taking their votes.
