What lies where those? Just because you strongly disagree with his views on theism, a doesn't mean he's lying.

Please let me know what happened, so I can address it more fully.

Sometimes I see statements that are over the top. Surely no thinking person can agree with the sentence as made? I mean, we can and should argue against falsehoods, but not by making new overgeneralized falsehoods.

Here is an example of what I'm thinking about. I've resisted the urge to clean up the English.

Quote:For religious view to be able to inform who a person is, that person must be very little and has scant hope of ever being much more.

Does anybody here really believe this?

There have been many many people in history whose religious view is an important part of what he or she is, who is more than "very little" and has in fact developed very well, into a good and important person -- while staying religious. e.g. Isaac Newton

Anyway, I called this statement out when it was first made, but nobody else did, and I found that a little disappointing.
As a theist here without religious views: I have rejected Christianity and theology because it's all a man made power grab from the beginning. Some are sincere but sincerely wrong. So when I read statements like that, I don't necessarily disagree. But, I hate being put into that camp just because I am a theist. I trust that there is a God and that He has revealed Himself in Scripture. Too bad nobody reads it. The English bible, all versions, has been manipulated to support theology, creeds and the Church which is not truth.
My girlfriend thinks I'm a stalker. Well...she's not my girlfriend "yet".

I discovered a new vitamin that fights cancer. I call it ...B9

I also invented a diet pill. It works great but had to quit taking it because of the side effects. Turns out my penis is larger and my hair grew back. And whoa! If you think my hair is nice!

When does size truly matter? When it's TOO big!

I'm currently working on a new pill I call "Destenze". However...now my shoes don't fit.

That's unfortunate.

You've been doing just that in this thread. Folks why tell you and you "No, no..That's not what it it means. You're wrong. That was meant to protect us." or "Yeah, but what about the love? Can't you see the love?" Lol!

It obvious that you think the religion is needed to serve as a model for structure and authority. And collectivism.
You know--To keep folks civilized and what not.

This sort of stuff seems to highlight the rampant groupthink in forums like this. As much as atheists like to repeat how inclusive it is, how all one has to do be an atheist is lack a belief in Gods, there seems to be sort of orthodoxy, that tends to tar and feather atheists who don't toe that particular line. In particular atheists more concerned with the questions of what's true, then what gets the most brownie points, high fives, and esteem from their fellow unbelievers.

Belaqua seems to be one of these least offensive posters on the internet, he doesn't make it a point to attack people, he questions the merits of certain claims and idea. But clearly he's not part of the orthodoxy here, and seems to illicit other unbelievers annoyance and fury as a result.

LMFAO...Your post might've have packed some punch if you had chosen to quote someone who actually regards the atheists here as friends, allies, or even simply as peers--Or at least someone who is anti-theist. Regrettably, you picked a decidedly cliqueless member who is unimpressed with atheists for the most part and doesn't find them (in general) to be any less annoying, bigoted, pompous and susceptible to trash beliefs than theists--and has been on record saying so, multiple times, on these very forums.

I accused Belaqua of lying because I've repeatedly seen him being dishonest and dissimulative in this thread in making over-the-top claims of his own and pretending he doesn't know what the fuck anyone's talking about when his claims are addressed or denying that he said such things at all-- including in his responses to me. Simple as that.

He's a flim-flam man, as far as I'm concerned. I've arrived at this conclusion not a result of any bias or sense of camaraderie, but because I can read.
If my saying so bothers you, well...can't say I give a fuck, to be honest.

I was happy to leave him to his nonsense and fuckery until you felt the need to make an example of my post.

Quote:Belaqua is a honest of a poster as any one could ever hope for here, to frame him as a liar, dishonest etc... speaks more about the poster, than it does about himself.

That is so touching.

Bullshit as well...But still, quite touching.

I very much appreciate your kind words here. They won't win you many brownie points on this forum, so I'm grateful that you'd speak up.

You'll appreciate this morning's good news, I think. The badger family that comes to my veranda for cat food brought their baby today! It's their baby's first grownup meal! A healthy badger is a thing of beauty!

Perhaps they are aware of some esoteric Higher Dishonesty that I don't know about? That by being scrupulously honest and focussing on the analysis of statements, I am actually, unbeknownst to myself, dishonest?

It all sounds a bit hermetic to me.

NOBODY reads scripture? I think what you're saying is that no one understands scripture to mean what you think it means. Which is pretty much what every Christian's specific beliefs ultimately boil down to.

The bible was originally written in other languages and other thinking skills. With no honoring of the inflection and syntax of the original languages, we are forced then to learn Scripture from people who went to seminary so they can also say, "Polly want a cracker". Modern teachers are just parrots parroting the same bullshit handed down for centuries. They don't think for themselves--they are not allowed! And if they see a crime committed against the original language, they are told to go with the translators because that is their life work and somehow, aren't allowed to be questioned.

You see, there is this thing known as the "Holy Spirit". And men gifted with a gift of the "Holy Spirit", can't tell a lie. But, all are liars because all claim the same gift and are openly hostile to each others teaching. How could this be? Both Baptists and Pentecostals claim the same gift and are openly hostile. Which one is telling the truth? Neither! There is no "Holy Spirit" magic sky God! No such concept exists in the original languages. But, translators and pastors manipulate the words of Scripture because they were taught how too manipulate Scripture so they can say any damned thing they want! Do you want examples?

The bible in it's original languages is not interpretable. There is no wiggle room. These languages are not sloppy like English. Just change word order and ignore parts of speech, inflection, syntax and you can be a pro too! You too can change nouns into verbs and verbs into nouns, ignore adjectives and reinvent prepositions into 150 sometimes it means! Supporting any bogus theology you want to invent!
