I don't think anyone would use Hitler in any way, shape or form to try and destroy an argument for God. Why would his beliefs matter? It's the religious that bleat on about Hitler, thinking that him being an atheist somehow strengthens their position.. So what if he was Catholic? So what if he was atheist? It has nothing to do with it.

Arguments for God pretty much destroy themselves, with very little need for intervention.

If Hitler wasn't a Christian, his actions don't validate Christianity.  If Hitler was a Christian, his actions don't refute Christianity.

Cod's got it right - Hitler's religious beliefs are immaterial to a debate about religion.

That's how warlords roll, everywhere.  Always has been.  They'll exploit any superstition that provides them with more soldiers and munitions.  This isn't a one way street.  The legitimization of whatever passes for the local religion benefits from it's relationship with the warlord just as much as the warlord benefits.  In the case of nazi germany, it's well documented that the church was instrumental in suppressing domestic dissent, in hunting jews, and profiting from that misery all the while.  They then helped nazi command escape capture.  From a local level, all the way up to the pope.  

So, while it's true that nothing a church or religious people can do, no matter how horrid, is capable of invalidating their beliefs (at some fundamental level, it can invalidate a shitload of their beliefs about the value and effect of their religion) - it's useful to have a factual view of history.  

This wasn't an example of a "rebellious runaway", or a non religious idea.  Did Hitler adopt christian white supremacy?  OFC.  It was politically useful....and eager to help.  There's a fundamental conflict in that relationship.  The nature of a fascist dictatorship isn't to share authority.  Hitler, even at the height of his power, went out of his way to accommodate german christendom - not because he believed it, or because he wanted to, or because he even liked the bastards.  He had to, and he knew it.
