Where were you 9/11/2001?

Where were you 9/11/2001?
I was still married living in Lynchburg Va. My now X wife had taken a job at a candle/fragrance factory and I was unemployed.

She was at work, and I was at home. I slept in late, and woke up after the second tower collapsed. When I turned on the news when I woke up, she was still at work, but she got the news faster than I did, but both of us were in 100% shock.

It was a kick in the gut, and a very sudden fear of the unknown. My wife's factory let everyone go shortly after the second tower fell. She came home and both of us were just horrified and didn't know what to expect.

Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I had been working as a temp at Purdue that summer, waiting for grad school to start. My "office" was the meeting room, the only room with a TV. The boss walked in and turned the TV on. In the background I could hear every phone in the building ringing. We all know what I saw on the screen. As the crowd grew I had to stand on a chair to see the TV. When the second plane hit I said "Where were you when the war started?"

9/11 was Pearl Harbor.

My objection to every religion or economic ideology is why the fuck humans think terrorism works.

I was simply scared and stunned.

In my sixth grade classroom. The teacher just turned on the TVs and set the channel to CNN where we saw smoke billowing out of the Twin Towers.

I was in Okinawa, at the Marine Corps base, watching it on the news really early in the morning I believe with everyone else.

Wondering why America wasn't annihilating the gutless cowards responsible.

I was only 6 years old, but I lived in Brooklyn at the time. My mom worked a few blocks away from the towers, and my cousin was FDNY; his body was never recovered.

Despite my proximity to the event, and how it affected my family, I have virtually no memory of it. It's possible my brain blocked it out to avoid trauma, which is apparently a thing. Sometimes I wish I remembered, because the memories of my cousin seem to have been blocked out with it.

My condolences to you and your family.
