Refuting Theistic Argument
#11
RE: Refuting Theistic Argument
Just say "I believe you're wrong for the same reasons that you believe you're right, now how do we determine which one of us is right ?"

What method should we use ?
How do we test your claim that a god exists ?
Insanity - Doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result

I've told you once, I suppose it didn't take.

Tell them of COURSE you can't prove the non-existence of God.

Then tell them it isn't your job to prove the non-existence of ANYTHING.  Failure to prove non-existence does not prove existence.

Just tell them you can.

If ask for some sort of proof say "now your getting it"
If they ask for an reason why you think god doesn't exit just point to all continued of lack of evidence FOR its existence.

They are the ones claiming that gods exist, it is up to them to meet their burden of proof.

If they do not meet it, you are completely justified in disbelieving their theistic claims.

Atheism is NOT the claim that a god doesn't exist, it is the disbelief that a god does exist. Some atheists make the claim that a god does not exist, and they do bear the burden of proof. But in a debate, there is no need to defend that position (unless one wants to).
but how can they prove it? using the scientific method? Proving God exists is impossible! do you agree with me? FSM Grin

That's not your problem how they prove it. It is still their burden of proof.

If it is impossible to prove, then their belief is unjustified, and their belief is irrational, isn't it?

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

The Christian God is defined by mainstream Christianity as being all-knowing, all-loving, all-powerful, and all just. Yet even a cursory reading of the bible reveals a God who is cruel, unjust, tyrannical, unloving and eternally vengeful. Ergo, the Christian God does not exist by reason of self-contradiction.

An all-loving, all-powerful, all-knowing God, by definition, cannot create evil or permit evil to exist in the world. And yet, evil exists. Ergo, God, as he is defined, does not exist on the grounds of self-contradiction.

I like to tell people that proving a negative (generally) is pointless.  I don't waste my time trying to prove the non-existence of God anymore than I waste it trying to prove the non-existence of other mythological creatures, like unicorns or penguins.
