My reply was serious. Forums like these are dying. TTA forums springs to mind, ISF is waning.
If this goes I'd have to find a new home, again. I enjoy most of the people here and the rules are a perfect mix of relaxed and stern.
"For the only way to eternal glory is a life lived in service of our Lord, FSM; Verily it is FSM who is the perfect being the name higher than all names, king of all kings and will bestow upon us all, one day, The great reclaiming" -The Prophet Boiardi-

I also have been losing interest in the atheist perspective. This forum has been my daily read for almost 10 years and I known very interesting people, had heated discussions, had mostly fun, it was a pleasure working as staff, except for that part that I lost it and offended you Tibs and Shell for no reason. I still cant think how I dropped so low, perhaps it was my work stress and I lashed out at the wrong people. I greatly apologize for what I've said.
As to the forum, I would like it to continue, we have a good community here, sure, the activity is low, mainly at weekends, but its possible to pick up again.
If this is the end of the cycle, it saddens me. I can't take the helm, but even if I could, I don't have the expertize Tibs has running the ship.

Tibs, I understand your reasons, and I can't say I disagree with any of them. But you should know that if AF closes, it'll force me to go outside and talk to people.
Do you really want that on your conscience?

I've been in this situation with a previous forum. I actually found some things on the forum I was running personally offensive and that makes it difficult as admin because then you can't easily object without people accusing you of being a tyrant. This is why if you are admin, it's better to have somewhere else to post where you can be your self without any responsibilities. But there still needs to be something that you enjoy about the forum you do run yourself.

Ironically the database decided to start taking up huge amounts of CPU usage last night. I thought restarting it would fix the thing but it happened again today. I have no idea why it's happening, there wasn't any change.

That's a real kick in the balls at this particular moment.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Yeah, I noticed. I got warnings that the server was overloaded.

In all fairness I can understand losing interest in a site, even one you’re the owner of. I’ve seen it happen numerous times, unfortunately.
I’ve seen the number if posts drop quite dramatically, but they have recovered somewhat since a whole group of members got hissy fits and moved on.
Part of the problem, as I see it, is that we are not attracting new membership as we once did.
I would hate to see the forum close down, my preference being to prrhaps switch it over to a team of responsible people.
I don’t know. Let’s discuss it.
