Latino is not a race

Latino is not a race
To people arguing in the Zimmerman thread. Okay peeps seemed really confused by the difference between Latino and Hispanic. And that neither of those terms is a racial category. Latino is anyone descending from Latin America. Hispanic is a Spanish speaking person of Latin descent. You can be Latino but not Hispanic, like myself, my father is Afro-Cuban but I was raised in Ohio and do not speak Spanish. I’m still Latina but not Hispanic. See the difference? Okay have a nice day.

Whether Zimmerman was Latino or Hispanic is quite beside the point. He murdered a 17 year old young man. The distinction between Latino versus Hispanic becomes very minute when you consider that he's a murderer, and most likely a racist at that. And yes, Latinos and Hispanic people can be racist. Imagine that! So can blacks, whites, greens, yellows and purples. Racism is not a black versus white phenomenon.

But, yes, even by your definition, Zimmerman was Hispanic, though I think that's quite beside the point.

edit:

But yes, I agree. "Latino" is not a race just as "white" is not a race. In fact, I don't even know what you would consider a race. Maybe people of a certain country? So Italians could be one race and Polish another? But even then, I'm sure there is a hugely diversified group of people who come from Italy and call themselves "Italians," - I'm sure it's just the same with Polish people. Overall, I think we largely get way too hung up on these words.
If you're frightened of dying, and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. But if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the Earth.

If you're an honest, decent person, I couldn't give a single flying fuck about any nationality, ethnic origin, religious or sexual preferences. Or any of the other irrelevant little boxes humans put themselves in.

Thank you very much Have a nice day.[Image: Sun.png]

I put "Martian" as my race once. Nobody blinked. They'd already seen "Zoroastrian" in the Religion box.

We have one species, three kinds of skeletal structure, and a dozen skin tones. Given how language works, race can be a fluid term.

Caucazoid, Negroid, and Mongoloid. I found that out a long time ago, when people were talking about how differences only go skin deep. except apparently some differences do go deeper.

Mongoloid, Negroid, Caucasoid. I think. I was a physics major at uni, so this memory is likely from age 11.
